Sounds great. Shin'en really knows how to produce those 'wow' visuals while keeping sizes down. I can't wait to see some gameplay from this one.

These guys obviously know how to supercharge the performance of the Wii U using its large amount of super fast Edram. I'm going to assume what they mean is that they are supersampling using 4K textures in 1080p which will still look amazing. Mark Cerny resently talked about supersampling in regards to streaming video from the PS4 to the Vita (displaying higher res video on a screen with a lower resolution making it look better) The Wii U Gamepad also does this and that's why it looks so nice even though the screen displays in a sub HD resolution.

Less talking, more showing, ok?

:3

Also, I don't have the slightest clue what "4-8k textures" means. Anyone in the know to explain it to me in dumb terms, please?

Misaka_x_Touma3835d ago

This is Shin'nen we are talking about here. All of there games in the past proves what they can do.

deafdani3835d ago

I know they have a proven track record. I'm just asking two things, one, to show us the game instead of just talking about it, and two, an explanation regarding the 4-8k textures.

4'k resolution textures... 3840 pixels × 2160

porkChop3835d ago

Texture resolutions are different from display resolutions.

porkChop3835d ago (Edited 3835d ago )

It's the size of the texture. 512x256, 1024x512, etc. 4k is usually 4096x2048, double that for 8k. Larger size means less compression and higher quality.

Here's some examples.

Thanks! I think I understand it now. I guess 4k-8k textures is above the norm when it comes to game textures?

porkChop3835d ago

Yeah as far as last gen goes (PS3/360/Wii) 4k/8k is much higher. The consoles didn't have enough video RAM to be able to display textures of that size.

triforce793834d ago

8k textures are of movie quality you can make COD look real using that resolution in textures....wiiu is a beast graphically...

Wow and just a decade ago Xbox 512X512 was considered hi res textures.

inb4 comments regarding whether or not Wii U is next-gen and how this proves/disproves it based on comparisons to the other two, despite the fact that gens are defined by sequence, not specs.

Now that that's out of the way; good on ya, Shin-en. I know you're not doing F-Zero, but I think Fast Racing Neo just might be a really good hold-over title till a new F-Zero DOES get made by whoever Nintendo puts to the task.
My wallet is waiting, Shin'en. Just get the game done and you can dig in.XD

Neonridr3834d ago

I was so excited to see that they were working on this project. I agree that this is definitely a gap filler until we get the real F-Zero. Who knows, maybe Nintendo is secretly giving Shin'en the opportunity to prove themselves with this game knowing that if they do a great job Nintendo may hand over the F-Zero franchise and some publishing money to make a full blown game happen.

EP Review: Fast RMX - Switch - GameEnthus

It’s the REMIX!

+ fast racing, nice visuals
+ fun polarity system
+ good multiplayer options, local and online
+ variety of vehicles and tracks
– never really found a good use leaning
– crashing into walls sometimes felt too inevitable(this may be leaning related)

Fast RMX Review

The Fast series is somewhat of a spiritual successor to F-Zero, a Nintendo franchise that has been long forgotten by Nintendo itself. If Nintendo won't develop any more games in the series, at least Shin'en is trying...but have their efforts ended up being worth it? Let's dig in.
