Ed Boon needs stop worrying about Street Fighter and focus on salvaging the MK franchise

BigKev456273d ago

ED needs to worry about making a good MK. And that hasn't been done in 10 years.

gtgcoolkid6273d ago

you know what, I am looking more towards Street Fighter than MK right now. the new MK games looks so idiotic. Teen rating my butt.

TheDarkHado6273d ago (Edited 6273d ago )

Did he just comment on SF? We're talking about the legendary Street Fighter series here. While SF4 looks like Arse Ed Boon does not need to comment on fighting game other than his own. MK Vs DC YIKES!!!! Now Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Thumbs Up Dan Style!!!!

kingOVsticks6273d ago (Edited 6273d ago )

Ed boon should have been talking to konami EDIT:(lol I meant capcom mgs on the brain :P)END EDIT: in making a street fighter vs mortal kombat i mean people actually want to see akuma go up against scorpion. i don't know any one who wants to see Sub zero vs batman WHO WANTS TO SEE SUb ZERO VS BATMAN!? NO ONE THATS WHO!
damn what should have been >_<

http://www.youtube.com/watc... ryu vs scorpion

games4fun6273d ago

poeple liked mr.freeze verse batman so they thought why not sub zero vs bataman? hahaha

seriously though i'm kind of depressed at this moronic move with mortal combat i would rather play a single player 3rd person shooter style with the mortal combat characters than mk vs dc

How Street Fighter IV Saved 2D Fighting Games (Ft. Maximilian Dood)

After Street Fighter II released in in 1991, it caused a fighting game explosion, both in arcades and in home consoles. But, as the decade ended, and arcades were failing, so too were 2D Fighting games. This is how Street Fighter IV completely revitalized the genre.

I'd say Blazblue helped too. Didn't care for Street Fighter 4, but Blazblue was amazing during that time. Sad that the series kind of went downhill after the first 2 or 3 games though.

DarXyde736d ago

BlazBlue was phenomenal. Platinum'd Calamity Trigger because I loved it so much. I remember buying Continuum Shift back in the day at launch for like $40. They did have DLC characters (Valkenhayne, Makoto, and Platinum at the time) and it came out to just a tad more than it would at full price. Didn't mind at all.

Great fighting game.

Snookies12736d ago

Continuum Shift was definitely my favorite. Spent way too many hours on that game, haha... Had the counters for days with Hakumen.

DarXyde736d ago

I really like Makoto, Valkenhayne, and Hazama. Super fun characters

Terry_B736d ago

Valkenhayn ..just sayin'

Terry_B736d ago

BlazBlue was the much better, more technical game..and a real 2D Fighting Game after all. But yes, since it was a big name..the characters were still popular and the game itself was good, SFIV indeed helped a lot. However, I am pretty sure the much better-selling Mortal Kombat 9 would have been done without SFIV as well..and that one truly helped to make the fighting game genre in general more popular again.

Ryuha1234h736d ago

You’re sound dumb. Blazblue was not better than sf4. You’re just saying that because you’re a street fighter hater.

Redgrave736d ago

>calls someone dumb
>does it by saying "you're sound dumb"

Task failed successfully

Terry_B736d ago

A SF Hater eh? Fight me in SF 2,3 4 or 5 and you will regret that stupid comment ;)

gold_drake736d ago (Edited 736d ago )

eyyy max xD

one of the very few streamers i can actually watch without it being cringe and awful ha.

The content of IV was severely lacking when it launched. It got better over time.

Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe Helped Save The Franchise

While some feel it was the Mortal Kombat: Annihilation movie, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is popularly touted as the lowest point for the franchise – at least in terms of video games. The prototype IP soup tried to do something new with popular characters going head to head, but never really got a good reception.

The biggest issue was that with the introduction of DC and Warner Bros, MK's iconic gore had to be dialed down. Batman, after all, cannot be split into two by Kung Lao's hat. However, while the game itself signaled the fatality of the Mortal Kombat franchise, its core formula is what resurrected it to become NetherRealm Studio and the reboot we've come to adore.

MK vs DC wasn’t awful. If reception for that game made mk9 possible then hopefully the failures of MK11 can make some good changes as well. It’s time to get rid of variations, they had a good run but ended up a mess.

CrimsonWing69907d ago

I think MK 9 did.

In fact I remember being bummed that this was a T rated MK game and just dismissed it. MK 9 was when I actually stood back and said, "They're back!". Still think that game is fantastic.
