Fair review. Pokemon hasn't brought anything to the table that it didn't have before. The 3D is 5 years over due. The first DS should have had no problems doing this game as well.

KonsoruMasuta4237d ago (Edited 4237d ago )

But the game wasn't here 5 years ago, it's here now.

And no, the first DS could not play this game. Go play some of the DS games that tried 3D character models, you will see that they are horrible, blocky, and built like stair cases. You can't even make out the faces of some.

The DS would not be able to handle this game.

The idea of good vs bad graphics is a different subject. The idea that we could have seen 3D in either 2.5D or even using shaders on the Ds...I mean Mario 64 looked amazing...mark kart DS was amazing metroid...they were all 3D. The DS wouldn't have looked this "beautiful" but i could have at least done different shaders.

You are speaking too literal to this game specifcally. What I'm trying to say is that let's say black could have been a 3D world...or more or if the pokemon were still 2D but animated instead of gifs.

People have such a hard on for Pokemon that they cannot see flaws of PACE, not the actual game.

This might be also because I'm a big fan of the first 151 pokemon. I do not like majority of others. But in all the pokemon games we just saw a lot of recycling. This is the first that isn't...but its 17 years later and we finally have 3D:) (and I'm not including stadium style games because its not the same).

Fact, not opinion. 3D is late in the game:)

I'm still buying pokemon but I haven't finished one since Diamond. Hopefully this will compel me to actually finish it.

KonsoruMasuta4237d ago (Edited 4237d ago )

Mario 64 and Mario Kart DS look NOTHING like this game. This game would have been poorly done on DS. There is no way that handheld could handle something of this scope.

I'm speaking of this game specifically because we are talking about this game specifically. The reason why we haven't had a 3D Pokémon on handhelds is because the other ones would not be able to handle a game of this scope.

It doesn't matter what other Pokémon game didn't do. We aren't talking about those ones. We are talking about X and Y, which does do things those other ones didn't do.

You're bring up games that have nothing to do with this one. You brought up Pokémon stadium, which isn't even a handheld game, nor was it the only other Pokémon game that was 3D (Look at XD Gale of Darkness and Coliseum for the Gamecube if you want to see a 3D Pokémon RPG.)

Your opinion is a fact?

A 3d Pokémon of this scope wasn't possible before and they did it once they had the hardware for it.

kB04237d ago (Edited 4237d ago )

Ur thought process is flawed, u dont get anything I'm trying to say. Look or not look 3D should've been done it didn't need to look like this game. It could've used the last gen 3D ....

You speaking about this game specifically which doesn't make sense...All pokemons are evolutions of themselves. My point is this is a long time coming, and this game could have been even further ahead if we had a 3D base from the previous generations.

Stop blindly defending on a technicality.

Edit

Wasn't possible before? your delusional....They managed to fit Starfox 3D and doom on Snes yet they couldn't do a 3D pokemon on a DS? They did stadium on 64 a VERY texture limited system and had memeory problems...and this couldn't handle a 3D pokemon? ...The hardware on the old DS was more than capable of a 3D pokemon....it had pokemon that even a GBA could probably handle if optimized.

Blind Fans are blind.

If you think the original DS can pull of this

You are the delusional one.

Everything that was done in 3D on the original DS was blocky as hell and horrible to look at. This game would have suffered the same fate.

The 3DS was obviously the better choice for this game.

I'm not saying the DS couldn't handle 3D games. I'm saying it couldn't do it properly. It would have been an extremely limited Pokémon game. They would have had to take cuts somewhere.

kB04237d ago (Edited 4237d ago )

Oh christ...ur not getting it at ALL

THE GAME WOULD BE OPTIMIZED FOR THE GOD DAMN UNIT...lower polygon count...lower textures...lower distance... U DO KNOW GAME ENGINES CAN DIFFER.

The idea is it CAN be done in 3D...will it look ANYWHERE AS GOOD AS 3DS? NO but it could be done in 3D.

UR MISSING THE POINT the point is 3D NOT X and Y graphics...for exmaple pokemon black/white Could have been in 3D...not 3DS 3d....DS 3D.

Yes they would need to cut on distance, but the 3D would be adapted to the 3Ds...there was no excuse for the near GBA graphics the DS pokemon used.

Making Pokémon 3D Was A Mistake

Pokémon’s shift to 3D was a big mistake, as the series’ roots in 2D design make it difficult to transfer important game mechanics into a 3D overworld.

why do other games pull off 3D monster collecting JRPG games just fine? Look at Jade Cocoon and Shin Megami Tensei for examples.

Answer should be obvious.

No other videogame franchise is as merchandise driven as Pokémon

Nintendo 3DS Games We Still Love Playing Even Today

BLG writes: "While it didn’t sell as well as the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo 3DS was nonetheless a wonderful system. And, while this may be a hot take, it’s easily my favorite handheld. Even more than a decade removed from launch, the system’s library has so many titles that feel as fresh today as they did back at release. While it was hard to narrow down, these 30 Nintendo 3DS games are emblematic of the system’s success."

When Will The Pokemon Company Introduce a New Typing?

The Pokemon Company has a solid thing going right now. Well, it’s been going on for a while, actually, but it has been a while since a new typing has been introduced to the popular monster-taming series. The latest one, Fairy type, was introduced back in Generation VI (Pokemon X & Y), so it does seem like it is time to bring in a new one. Check out Jason Capp's article for more.
