Gameranx: As an HD remaster of two games, this is a collection powered by the gripping hands of nostalgia. Your own love of Disney, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts itself will determine whether or not Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX satisfies you. The collection is the best way to play both games; be that as it may, it's obvious Square Enix cut corners, and more could have been done to assure both games stood the test of time much better. In short, hanging out with Goofy, Donald Duck, and Cloud altogether makes for a unique and memorable experience over two games, but the outdated gameplay mechanics of 10 years ago will make it difficult to revisit all the beloved characters and worlds from your childhood.

Chain of Memories and 358/2 have a lot of important stuff that lead into KH2. Otherwise you'll be Really lost at beginning of 2. You can easily find a videos of all the cutscenes of both games so you dont have to play through them all the way.
Wouldn't actually say Chains is necessary before going into 2 since you know just as much as Sora. While I do like a lot from 358/2, aside from a few things it's mostly world/character building Days came out after 2 anyway and would take a lot of mystery away. Maybe I'm just trying to simulate how I experienced the story but in that case I actually started playing 2 first lol. Cutscenes should be sufficient for sure.

The platforming took a step down thanks to having to recycle assets from the 3DS game. It controls pretty badly.
