Call of Duty: Ghosts Uses “Cinema Quality”, “Above Next-Gen” Assets to Give Each Platform the Best

Infinity Ward’s Executive Producer Mark Rubin is very confident on the graphical quality of the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts, especially due to a “a semi-dramatic change” to the internal art production pipeline.

Had to check the article out to see if they actually did they say that.

They did

Are they not aware of an entire industry doing what they're doing, and better in most cases?

Abriael3949d ago

Actually... considering the icon you have in your avatar you really shouldn't say that.

Remember the awful, awful textures skyrim launched with on PC? They were exactly the same as Xbox 360 and PS3.

So no, not the entire industry is doing that :D

N7Lukas3949d ago (Edited 3949d ago )

I don't have that icon as my avatar because of textures in the game, i have it because of the experience it gave me and my love for it.

Do you actually agree with the bullshit this guy is talking? "Above next gen", what does that even mean!?!?! PR nonsense.

Go away CoD troll.

Abriael3949d ago (Edited 3949d ago )

@N7Lukas: it's actually very possible that he's not talking bullshit on this one. "Above Next gen" simply means that the art assets of the game are higher resolution than what PS4 and Xbox One can handle, and they get sized down separately for each platform in order to get the best result on each.

Which is what every developer should do really. But many don't.

PS: LOL @ "cod troll". FYI I really, really dislike COD games. Doesn't mean I can't recognize that they don't lie every second especially when what they say does make sense technically.

Wni03949d ago

cause skyrim was such an amazing game... lol 4 hour campaign?

1nsomniac3949d ago (Edited 3949d ago )

Yea right, because this typical bullshit PR doesn't happen every single year with COD. If you believe this crap, your a fool!

This article is full of fail!

"Art assets" are always taken at a higher resolution & scaled down, this is absolutely nothing new, in fact its stupid to even question that. They may have not been taken at such a high resolution in the past because there was no need before until the hardware caught up but its certainly nothing new & obviously other devs will also now be doing the same now that the hardware has caught up.

How do you think Skyrim released the HD pack in the first place??? do you honestly think they went back to the drawing board & recreated all their textures from scratch or just rescaled the ones they already had!?

Come on use at least the slightest bit of common sense!

adorie3949d ago

HD textures from the Nexus is the way to go.

After revamping Skyrim with the right mods, Skyrim is one of the most beautiful games I have ever owned and played.

I just wish it had more enemy variation and that some dungeon layouts were less similar.

Other than that, the game is top notch. 30 hours in and I'm maybe half way through. Keep in mind I like to explore and venture off the main quest path.
Still, I'm sure it's a long game without all the extras, but the extras are what sweeten this game up.

HammadTheBeast3949d ago

http://cdn.bf4central.com.s...

Abriael usually I agree with you, but really? EVERY game uses above "next-gen, CG quality" RENDERS as assets first, and those are then scaled down to fit the system. EVERY game.

They have a few high poly renders, and they spread this bullshit to entrance the masses.

CoD Ghosts looks worse than a few current-gen games I can show you. It is unarguably one of the worst looking next-gen games shown so far.

FamilyGuy3949d ago

Naughty Dog and many others already do this. Having hug resolutions/assets that get scaled down. These guys are playing catch up an boasting like they're ahead. Fish AI all over again, they just don't know how to promote this CoD properly.

N4g_null3949d ago

It is called normal mapping and tessellation or hyper nurbs with displacement. All of these techniques are boosted by higher resolution texture maps and better polygon culling. Ram and compression is needed to do these with great effect. So yeah everyone will be doing this.

skyrim was a test to see if pc gamers would buy console quality games and it worked.

@ Abriael

It makes it a little harder to believe from devs that reproduce the same shit every year. If it was a credible, respected dev that actually innovates then maybe it would be a little more believable.

falcon973949d ago

Well all i know is i'll be getting WiiU version,Activision has confirmed it uses the same upgraded engine as xbox one and ps4 and it will be the first true Nextgen version on 5th nov can't wait,i love BO2 wiiu....

Tito083949d ago (Edited 3949d ago )

@Falcon97-What if that "Upgraded" engine could also be used on PS3/360? And funny how you say it's the first true next-gen when they only talked about the dog & the fishes moving, lol.

3949d ago
dredgewalker3949d ago

The only thing I know about COD right now is that it's gone to the dogs.....and fishes...

falcon973947d ago

They explain that wiiu uses displacement mappint and lots of other features 360 and ps3 cant do in a million years....

NewsForge3949d ago

Above next-gen?

PUAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWA

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAQSFSDCV

I'm crying.

JsonHenry3948d ago (Edited 3948d ago )

Someone should tell the PR people that thier nose is a foot long.

GraveLord3948d ago

It's called PR. Most gamers don't know that assets are created in really high resolution then ported down to consoles.

I think if this is good news for COD. It means we'll see a notable different between current and next-gen platforms. This may finally be next-gen COD, at least from a graphical standpoint.

TheEnigma3133949d ago

Why does it seem like there's a lot of damage control going on for COD ghosts? It's like they're trying to convince us this time COD is different.

venom063949d ago

that's exactly what it is... damage control... think about it.. There's a reason theyre going to show the big "MP reveal" before Gamescom. The same reason they showed the big SP reveal before E3, they knew it would be lackluster, and they wanted to try to hold as much attention as they could for the short e they could. They had to get it out there before the big competitors (BF, Titanfall) showed what they had.

christrules00413949d ago

I totally forgot that they did the SP reveal before E3. Oh well it'll be the same this time around as well. Ubisoft has a game to show, Black Tusk still has there exclusive for Microsoft and Sony still has 15 exclusives to show for the PS4 and The Order: 1886 gameplay.

I'll have forgotten all about the MP for Ghosts after Gamescom.

gaelic_laoch3948d ago

But but but but there are Dogs this time!

GraveLord3948d ago

That's exactly what they're doing.

....what's wrong with that?

I can't wait until they reveal multiplayer next week. That reveal will make or break my purchase.

venom063949d ago

maybe not the entire industry, but a hell of alot of them. Especially in the FPS genre... CoD is actually really behind the times.. it's pretty much only surviving now by 12yr old nerd whiny fanboys and 30yr money grabbin Youtubers, that will hate and gripe about the game 5 months after release, but continue to post it anyway for the views.

N7Lukas3949d ago

Its like they're only aware of their own game, they're so in love with it that they are blind to what else other devs are doing that blow whatever they are doing out of the water.

Johnsonparts233949d ago

you can use a lot of arguments against COD, its stale, doesn't change much each year etc. But to say its only surviving by 12yr olds and 30yr old youtubers is the dumbest argument there is. It's the #1 game every year, as far as sales and people actually playing the game. SOMEBODY must like it no? You don't, fine, but to be the #1 game each year without fail and consistently make over a BILLION is unmatched in the gaming world. It's probably the most hated franchise out there, but its also the most loved. Numbers don't lie.

AngelicIceDiamond3949d ago

Heard it all before.

And the invisible hype begins.

Mikeyy3949d ago

This all sounds amazing and great for the next gen until you realize it's infinity ward saying it...

It does sound like something that should be the norm for every dev. That being said.

XDefiant dev promises fix to frustrating hit reg issues, though players remain skeptical

Mark Rubin, XDefiant’s executive producer, responded to an X/Twitter post that fixes to hit reg “are something [they] are working on.” Unfortunately, it’s unclear when it will arrive, as neither Rubin nor the development team have yet to provide an actual time frame.

just_looken3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Ha man what is this the 8th time they are working on this issue?

SO the game is using division one maps/assets with some divison 2 thrown in with that we can say they never really made the maps so what have they been doing for there 6 to perhaps 8 years of dev time? must be alot of hookers/blow/parties.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Notellin3d ago

It's astounding how much money they blow and this is the results. Gaming development is out of control.

just_looken2d ago

Right even when ubisoft cancelled division heartland as a beta player that game was a far better state then they push with this trash of a game that is still in a beta state after 3 years of delay's.

we are so starved of any decent fps/3rd person shooters out there it seems we will take anything even though some ps2 fps games were more fun then this game in my old opinion.

FPS_D3TH3d ago

Skeptical because it was an issue with ALL the betas and still hasn’t been fixed

just_looken2d ago

Its like they are using division one servers but they caught fire then were put together with barry/carols help from the janitors wing or some shit. Three years they still can not make it so the gun goes boom the guy gets hit then damage is applied.

An Update on the Release of XDefiant from Mark Rubin

An update on the release of XDefiant from Mark Rubin!

GoodGuy09260d ago

Been real hungry for a more simple multiplayer fps for a long time. I really dislike all the hero shooters we keep getting. I'll definitely give this a shot and if it ends up crap then it ends up crap.

OMGitzThatGuy260d ago

How broken is the game when Sony and MS failed certification? And they still think it may fail and planning on a day 1 patch, somebody was slacking.

Nitrowolf2260d ago (Edited 260d ago )

He literally came out to clarify that this is very standard of a process for a game to be denied the first cert. They're just giving a update to the people waiting and explaining what's going on

Dazelya260d ago

They were too late to do this. Also, the beta versions of the game were absolutely a disaster, if they are like this at launch, they will destroy themselves without the need for CoD anyway. Besides, it is an extremely negative thing that the game was rejected by Sony or MS or both during quality control, and that is why they waited so long to announce it. Moreover, there is still a chance of being rejected again.

What I wonder is, at what point did people love Mark so much? Many years ago, when Mark was working in CoD teams, people were swearing at him. Now, it really surprises me that Mark has his defenders. People either forget things very easily, or younger generations are not very aware of Mark's past...

boing1260d ago

Well, yeah but not really. The problem is you set certification for a specific date, and then you have to deliver something mostly working to get a cert. However, often times first cert is set too soon, because you start doing it before the game is actually ready, so the process is mostly used to see how much effort it would still require to deliver something passable on second cert, because you get a nice report after the first one. It's absolutely possible to deliver on first cert. You do not deliver if you're way behind with development.

PapaBop259d ago

Very standard? I can't think of a time where I've read a story of a major publisher failing the certification process and having to delay the game as a result.

PunksOnN4G260d ago

TBH the last beta the shooting and aiming was bad on console it was really bad

Killa78260d ago

The game has pretty bad issues in the open beta. It's a shame because a f2p proper fps is needed at the moment.

Muigi260d ago

This is why people still buy Cod
