Helldivers 2 Got Double the Development Budget From PlayStation According to Studio Boss

Arrowhead Game Studios chief Johan Pilestedt revealed that Sony PlayStation doubled the development budget of Helldivers 2.

Which is pretty good that they supported them in making it a high quality game with more funding. Basically shutting up the complainers about Sony making a GaaS game. The GaaS game turned out well and doesn't bombard gamers with micro transactions and doesn't signal the death knell of single player gaming.

Same with Sony's online. Microsoft offered nothing for a decade when XBL started on the OG Xbox going past 360. Sony launched theirs and gave away games to play for subscribing to their service. More bang for your buck than what you paid in. A better way of doing it compared to what was before.

Now we see gamers complaining about AI. But maybe Sony will use AI correctly and do it right that benefits their company and their employees. We have to see the results before bitching and complaining.

This is why those steam complainers would piss me off. This game wouldn't exist without Sony yet Sony is evil for requiring a psn account that was supposed to be there from the beginning. AH messed up, not Sony.

Sony is the publisher. They set the rules. They set up the regions it's available in.

The game wouldn't exist or be as popular as it is without Arrowhead. They didn't mess up one bit, except for showing care and catering to the community.

It is an evil move for a corporation to take money from customers they're knowingly going to prevent from playing the game. How is that *not* corporate-evil?

It's their first multi-player game on steam. Do you really think companies are perfect and don't make mistakes? I've worked with several big compani3s and they all make mistakes all the time.

You also understand that you're saying Sony would rather deal with mass refunds instead of making it unavailable in those countries right? You understand how stupid that is right?

The proof is in GoT, it's clear they simply didn't think things through and that is why that game is now not available in many countries after the HB2 incident.

AH made the mistake in not communicating properly about this and it was AH ceo that made the decision. Take into account what I just said. The ceo of AH made the decision. What does that tell you? Sony gave AH the freedom to handle their game beyond what Sony required. Which other publisher would ever allow that? You think ea or ms or ubi would do this? It's delusional to categorize Sony at the same playing field as those other companies.

Sony's been developing and publishing games for decades. I'm not buying that they're some newbie that needs time to figure it out, or some entity that can get strongarmed by their development partners.

Sony clearly saw the potential and oh boy were they right!

Easily the most fair GaaS i've seen so far.
