Nintendo needs to hire people who understand today's market

I was astounded when Nintendo only NOW admitted that they were unprepaired for the HD market. Absolutely insane. How could they have not consulted another company before doing this? Has Iwada no idea how this industry has changed? Ever since Iwata became prez, he's isolated the company so much, that they became totally out of touch with the industry as a whole. Even the average n4g user knows that the HD era is far more costly, time consuming, and difficult. Not to mention the other additions to this gen, such as DLC, Online infrastructures, trophies, etc that have already been around for 7 years on consoles.

I want a new President for Nintendo. Iwata is clueless.

Yamouchi consoles (NES, SNES, N64) > Iwata consoles (Gamecube, Wii, Wii U)

I agree on most of what you said, but one question...What was wrong with the GameCube? I freakin loved that thing.

Yamouchi-san (NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube) < Iwata-san (DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U)

Iwata-san became president AFTER the Gamcube was already lauched under the jurisdiction of Yamouchi-san. Sure the Wii U had a rough start, but that doesn't imply that it will also has a bad end. Just look at the 3DS. Anyway my whole point is that the start doesn't matter. What happends in the end is all that matters.

Especially with the size of their dev teams. They could have asked for advice from other developers and im pretty sure they would have been better prepared for the HD era. But in a way i understand how difficult it must be to go from an SD console (Wii) to a full HD console (Wii U) when at the moment HD is the standard for video games.

Out of touch with the industry means selling the most consoles and software?

The 3DS is killing the Vita right now right? How out of touch is Nintendo? By December you guys will be singing a different tune.

The last thing I want is Nintendo to become like Sony or Microsoft who are apparently "in touch" with the gaming industry while losing millions of dollars a year.

You do know that Nintendo will have to compete with the launch of the PS4 and the XBOX One right? And on top of that since they eliminated the cheap Wii U the premium is only 50€ less than the PS4. Things wont be as easy for Nintendo as you think they will be.

Software sells hardware, and Nintendo has plenty of it. The Xbox One isn't even launching in Japan this year and it's $500. A Wii U basic is $100 less than a PS4. The Wii U Premium actually comes with a game...unlike the PS4.

- Can you name any $500 consoles with no blockbuster launch titles that have done well in the history of gaming?

Microsoft better work on price cut, because they're the ones who are going to have a hard time.

I'm pretty sure nintendo will have learned their lesson for the next console they release. The Wii sold 100 million and the DS/3DS 190 million. I doubt Nintendo is in big trouble right now.

I'm actually excited at the thought of them finally getting back into the race.

And the worst thing that could happen... Nintendo goes the Sega way and starts becoming exclusively a game dev for other consoles, and everyone would surely benefit from this

The problem with that last bit is that they said that they won't work for anybody else. Nintendo games go on Nintendo consoles. If they go out of the business then they are OUT of the business. For good.

Not to mention why would they completely go out of business? The 3DS is kicking ass and the Wii U profits on one game sale. They absolutely nothing to worry about.

Even the GameCube profited and it only sold 20 million units worldwide.
