Something's terribly wrong at Microsoft's Entertainment (Xbox) division. Terribly.

"most importantly, we expanded Xbox to go beyond great gaming to deliver all the entertainment people want — sports, music, movies, live television and much more."

Wow, so Ballmer is now boss and the most important thing about Xbox One to him is sports, music, movies and live television.

Wow. Speechless.

Prcko4352d ago

critical moments for xbox, and this happens...
crazy

dedicatedtogamers4352d ago

In all fairness, Ballmer is the TEMPORARY boss.

But yeah, read the following quote from Ballmer:

"I’m particularly excited about how Xbox pushes forward our devices and services transformation by bringing together the best of Microsoft. The consoles are incredible all-in-one devices with built-in services that consumers love, including Bing, Xbox Live, Internet Explorer, SkyDrive and Skype. And, just as important, Xbox Games, Xbox Video, Xbox Music and SmartGlass light up Windows PCs, tablets and phones."

Does it trouble anyone else that he mentiones game-related aspects of Xbox (Xbox Live and Xbox Games) only twice in that entire paragraph?

MikeMyers4352d ago

"Does it trouble anyone else that he mentiones game-related aspects of Xbox (Xbox Live and Xbox Games) only twice in that entire paragraph?"

Sure if that is your focus and want to keep the theatrics going on how bad the Xbox brand is. Not sure why that would concern anyone who already said repeatedly they aren't going to support the Xbox One anyways. For the rest of us it means the Xbox One will do more than just games but games will still be it's primary selling feature. Microsoft has more games in development right now than at any time in the history of the Xbox. So no, it doesn't worry me. Sorry to disappoint you.

TheHierarchy4352d ago

It is nice to hear the position is now open, now that mattrick is moving out. but all Managers take the same classes.

Even if a chick was to take Mattrick's place once any hardware goes gold all they can do is defend it. That's marketing and that's what they're being payed to do.

SilentNegotiator4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

So ultimately, Xbox has the same type of leadership ideology.

Great.

jmc88884352d ago

Ballmer isn't the temporary boss.

He's the PERMANENT boss who is currently TEMPORARILY taking on the role of someone who would be beneath him.

It's like manager of a fast food chain who helps out the line when it's busy or short staffed.

Except he's more concerned with having frosty paint of Ronald McDonald on the windows done correctly then anything else....like the food.

In the end the guy who is hired, will still report to him.

So for all the people saying...no the new guy after ballmer will have a different focus...

Sure...and risk his new job by going against Ballmer?

The rot is at the top. Gates and Ballmer are morons.

TekoIie4352d ago

@Dedicatedtogamers

"Does it trouble anyone else that he mentiones game-related aspects of Xbox (Xbox Live and Xbox Games) only twice in that entire paragraph?"

No... Which is why you framed it as a question. Your trying to create fake controversy.

TheHierarchy4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

@ jmc8888

"The rot is at the top. Gates and Ballmer are morons."

they just think differently. Ultimately when any hardware ships all managers are supposed to defend and market. so even if all of the managers from all of the consoles were to trade places their goals would not be any different.

Edit- In microsoft's case this doesn't mean that change still can't be made. it just takes the higher up in the chain of command to push things forward.

MarkusMcNugen4352d ago

@jmc8888

Bill Gates is not at the top... hes a non-executive chair. He doesnt oversee any day to day activities. In fact, a non-executive chairs duties are typically chairing the meetings of the board, organizing and coordinating the board's activities, such as by setting its annual agenda, and reviewing and evaluating the performance of the CEO and the other board members.

I would hardly say he is responsible for much of what happens in the Xbox division.

That was MS strategy when they started the whole XBox thing. Using games as a Trojan horse to get the "endpoint" into living rooms so they can spam homes with their services. Is anybody really surprised?

NukaCola4352d ago

MS's choice of turning the Xbox brand into the swiss army knife of entertainment is fine and well excepted.'

The issue is they entered the gaming market, not the apple TV market, so by using money for timed exclusives and fighting & belittling the competition, they have done nothing but try and destroy the gaming industry in their plot to TAKE OVER THE LIVING ROOM. At the end of the day and after all MS has done, it's clear they don't give a rat's ass above video games. It was just a way in so they can monopolize the television, push ads to the consumers and produce revenue for their stock holders.

If MS came in last year and not last gen, they would not even of had games on their list of capabilities. They would of gone full force against apple and google for what they really want. The television. People defend Xbox to the death but look at the bigger picture. MS is a cancer.

mewhy324352d ago

Wow. Micro$oft is reeping what it sowed. They made their bed now let them lie in it.

dmeador4351d ago

I'm sure glad all the people who are claiming doomsday only use their cell phone to make calls, and their computers to calculate artillery strikes.

But you guys are right, there is no way the X1 will have more than 2 games a year.... oh wait, they killed the PS4 in their exclusive games presentation at E3.

finbars754351d ago

You know what drives me crazy about the whole Don mattricks PR nightmare is the fact that if he didnt say anything about the xboxone information then guess what all you xbox fanboys would be in for a rude awakening come launch time.Think about it he really just did you guys a favor even if it was bad on his part.I gurantee that the xboxone would still have drm in it,you would have to have internet connection to play sp games ect.You honestly thing they would have dropped all those things from the xboxone if nothing was said.be thankful this happened because im sure guys like Steve Ballmer wouldnt had said anything and this discussion wouldnt be taken place and there would be an outrage down the road which would be a little to late for changes that close to launch.MS are showing gamers there true colors now and im sure something will take place before release that will be frowned upon by the time xboxone is available.

Major_Glitch4351d ago

@dmeador Lol. You mean the presentation where they showed off all their games on high-end pcs? Or was it the part where they showed they had fewer true exclusives than the PS4?

GOD FORBID THEM to make the Xbox more than pure gaming device. Especially when we hear the same terms of "expanding beyond gaming" from Sony as well.

TongkatAli4352d ago

All you need is dvd or bluray to make your game console a "entertainment device".

EditorAtGNG4352d ago

Indeed. People hate on Balmer for being the asshole he is (you know, the corporate kind of asshole) but MS is doing great because of his corporate way of running things (MS is actually gaining profit in all divisions except Xbox).

So, this might be a different kind of thing but who knows... things haven't been exactly great thus far so...

Nodoze4352d ago

Yeah cause we all know that Sony has openly stated that there goal is to 'OWN the living room'. We all know Sony has been working to create a trojan horse to get into our living rooms to control us. They created a glorified TV guide and HDMI pass through on the PS4 to allow for TV viewing with voice commands. They also created a camera system that can detect emotion, heart rate, and whether or not you are paying attention to the commercials.

Oh wait that was all Microsoft. Sony has been focused on delivering great gaming experiences, and in addition allowing some media functionality.

Stop defending Microsoft.

dark-hollow4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

@NoDoze
"Trojan horse" "control us"

Microsoft are literary the third Reich!

kenshiro1004352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

When Sony was doing this, 360 fans were laughing at the PS3. Now Microsoft is doing it, it's completely okay. I remembered the whole 'PS3 has no games' crap that was spewed around on other sites and probably this site too. Now Microsoft does the same thing, it's A-Okay!

dedicatedtogamers4352d ago

Like shadowgeist said, it's a bit disingenuous for Xbox fans to defend this shift in direction when they were mocking PS3 owners just a few years ago for the same thing.

"Blu Ray player? I bought my console for games, not movies"

"PS3 has no games!"

"At least I have the OPTION for HD-DVD and I'm not forced to buy an overpriced Blu Ray player"

jmc88884352d ago

There's a thing called opportunity cost.

Think of it like a time management game. You can rest, or work out, or play, or whatever.

But you can't do it all.

You say 'god forbid them'...why are you covering for them? You think they are adding anything?

What does Xbox add to my cable that I don't have already?
What part of xbox is needed for streaming movies? (hint: netflix didn't start on consoles...nor is it needed...not even to view them on a TV since PC's hook up to TV's as well as monitors)

Why should Microsoft divide their focus on things they add no value on?

That's what they are doing. At the expense of the core product.

Even so much as to FORCE the NSA spying device known as Kinect 2 to be connected. (which means if your kinect goes bad, your console is needlessly useless)

At least with the 360 when the Kinect went out, people could simply unplug it. Not with this one, and no you don't believe a company that is required to lie to you about its spying to tell you truthfully about it not spying.

Sony and Microsoft did not treat the 'beyond gaming' aspect equally. Not even close. Like 56-0 football close, or for futbol 10-0 victory.

So again, with limited resources and time, why is Microsoft trying to add all this unnecessary, no benefit gimmicks to things that no one wants?

MarkusMcNugen4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

@jmc8888
"What does Xbox add to my cable that I don't have already?"

Well, if you love NFL football and fantasy football it does add functionality cable boxes arent capable of at the moment. Same goes for being able to Skype while watching the boob tube. Maybe that means nothing to you, but to some people Im sure its a bonus.

"What part of xbox is needed for streaming movies? (hint: netflix didn't start on consoles...nor is it needed...not even to view them on a TV since PC's hook up to TV's as well as monitors)"

With this rational the PS4 shouldnt have a netflix app because PCs can stream netflix. Your are just fishing for things to hate about when you say stupid things like that. Guess what? PCs have been playing games longer than any console, so by the same rational theres no need for consoles to play games... just nonsensical.

"Why should Microsoft divide their focus on things they add no value on?

That's what they are doing. At the expense of the core product. "

You mean services for end users? Same thing I said above applies to these statements.

"Even so much as to FORCE the NSA spying device known as Kinect 2 to be connected. (which means if your kinect goes bad, your console is needlessly useless)"

Conspiracy theory much? NSA spying device? You cant be serious. Guess what, most smartphones, tablets, and laptops today have a camera on them. If your so worried about being spied on through a camera by the NSA I guess you shouldnt own any of these devices with cameras...

"At least with the 360 when the Kinect went out, people could simply unplug it. Not with this one, and no you don't believe a company that is required to lie to you about its spying to tell you truthfully about it not spying."

You really just want to believe companies spy on you all the time just because dont you...

"So again, with limited resources and time, why is Microsoft trying to add all this unnecessary, no benefit gimmicks to things that no one wants?"

Correction. Services that you dont want. You dont speak for everybody, and I am looking forward to a lot of these services. As much as I am looking forward to owning a PS4 as well.

Knushwood Butt4352d ago

Jeez, who thought it was a good idea to give you your bubbles back?

joeorc4351d ago (Edited 4351d ago )

Ever since the entire Microsoft xbox platform founders like Ed, Robbie, and the rest of them over there all left, i have a very sour outlook on Microsoft's exec's doing the right thing by their xbox platform consumer's.

The people running it now are looking at less and less for the consumer and the bottom line is to protect Microsoft's monopoly on Their OS market, d@mn every thing else, why else would you have Three Freaking Operating systems on a Game console? its about their OS gate toll position they do not want to loose over to Linux and Apple and Google etc.

This is no longer really about the games console market, its about keeping Microsoft's Windows reliancency from the Consumer the A#1 priority d@mn every thing else. A game console is about Game's, so why do you need Three OS's? you don't that is because its less about XBOX MORE ABOUT windows!

Remember, when Game's for windows came out and now its gone, PC gamers did not want to be tied to xboxlive, So Microsoft is trying it another way, making xbox live come to the PC gamer again, they want that control , but gamer's said loud and clear ...NO!

this would not have happened if the founders would have still been in charge of the xbox project!

Apple and Google has done the real Damage, the fact of the matter is the OS front is where Microsoft's real cash cow is, without being the Main OS for every day computing, that is going to be a problem when the main OS is every thing but a Microsoft OS for general mass adoption computing.

That is what the main problem is. without a toll position From an OS level Microsoft's Ability to dictate what OS is the main OS that Games are Made for, is the larger problem for microsoft when Valve is now putting investment into Linux, and Apple's OS That right there is a big problem for Microsoft, because during the Wintel Dominance Windows + intel CPU chips, Most games were being made only for windows powered PC's , now with Mac and linux Getting a fair shake its no longer just Microsoft's OS as a main OS for games development priority. add in iOS and Android, and Microsofts market share for The Main OS that games are made for is now shrinking very rapidly.

that's Microsofts main concern, its not about the Xbox as a platform anymore its about keeping Microsoft's OS as the main general consumer OS for all things computing in the consumer electronics. Its not about the game console anymore. For Microsoft. its always about the OS! and being the #1 OS as that leads to be the #1 OS games are made for. Thats Microsofts main goal!

No Way4351d ago

What? Microsoft has games. Where have you been?
Sony really didn't have games at the beginning of the console life..
That is why people said it; cause it was a negative for a great system.

Who jumps ship on the wake of the console's launch?

dark-hollow4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

All of the knee jerk reactions here are ridiculous. The next gen isn't there and yet people call the Xbox a sinking ship.

Where are those same people when Sony was bleeding millions on the ps3 launch? Its too early to make a judgement.

MysticStrummer4352d ago

@dark-hollow - The difference is Sony planned to be taking a loss when they launched PS3.

MS wasn't planning on the reaction One got and I can (almost) guarantee you that Mattrick was allowed to leave instead of being fired.

dark-hollow4352d ago

@Mysticsummer

And the other thing the next gen hasn't even started! We don't know how well the xbone gonna fair, and let's not pretend that MS can't afford to loses on the first years if it didn't Go well.

MysticStrummer4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

Of course next-gen hasn't started (though Nintendo fans would argue that), and I didn't say anything about MS not being able to afford taking a loss on One.

I'm just comparing this management change with what you said about Sony losing money on PS3. It's a very different situation. Mattrick was most likely shown the door because of the One's reception and how he handled it. MS did him a favor by letting him "quit".

BABY-JEDI4352d ago

I think this guy is an ideal representative of the XBone, because that's where MS want to market the device. The XBone is not purely a gaming device. It's aimed at (ideally) bigger markets. I would rather have a gaming console. But MS would rather have money from TV, apps, sports ect revenue. But, that's what they want. Time for gamers to tell them what they want!

Ray1864352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

"Who jumps ship on the wake of the console's launch?"

Someone who is trying to distance themselves from the incoming train wreck.

pixelsword4352d ago

Tyre4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

@MarkusMcNugen I'm speechless...Where have u been the last couple weeks? I've got news for ya kid...leaks/scandals heard about it? It is all out in the open....PRISM Program? Sounds familiar? Microsoft was the 1st one in, that garantees that they are handing over all their data to the NSA on regular basis. You're living in the past...get with the times. How do you still come up with the conspiracy argument? I'm amazed...i guess old habits are hard to get rid of. You can't teach an old dog news tricks, like the realisation that there IS a conspiracy in spying on citizens. Never in the history of mankind have seen so many facts out in the open and still you come up with the ignorance....i can't believe how people keep their eyes shut, Wake up and smell the ashes.

As a business move, it's absolutely brilliant to expand the device.
Look, PlayStation is already establishing itself as a pure, core gamer's dream, right? If you can't attract the same demographic, why not attract not only gamers, but also those who want access to other forms of entertainment?

ThanatosDMC4352d ago

PS3 all ready does that... PS4 will continue the trend. Remember the slogan "It only does everything"?

brave27heart4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

What should be concerning for Xbox fans is that MS has had a real rough ride lately, their reputation has taken a hit and part of that was their poor launch conference where games were hardly mentioned. There is a real fear that games will be a secondary focus for them behind tv integration, so what they should be doing is focusing on getting that gaming message across to people.

The fact they're still touting entertainment over games shows me they havent really learned from their mistakes.

kenshiro1004352d ago

Mind is completely blown, lol.

dlocsta4352d ago

@allformats
The most important thing is that America re-invest in it's education system. You completely changed the context of the sentence. He said, "most importantly, we epeanded Xbox beyond great gaming..." and then he adds, "to deliver all the entertainment people want..." Ballmer is a pretty bad pick to head MS I will give you that and even worse if he has to take charge of Xbox but don't put words in his mouth by changing the context of the words that come out of his mouth. Believe me he will make a stupid enough statement soon enough. Don't rush him.

horndog4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

@allformats

You must be the leader of the tards. You got the quote and you still can't make sense of it. I'll give it a shot.

"most importatnly, WE EXPANDED XBOX TO GO BEYOND GREAT GAMING to deliver all the entertainment people want"

Besides great gaming it will also be able to provide sports, movies etc. or in other words act like a cable box. No where does it say that the extras besides gaming are the priorities. Personally I like MORE OPTIONS on my consoles. I think its great.

The direction they are taking with Xbox reeks of PC under the TV in the living room syndrome. All the things he says are basically what a PC can do where the focus is not solely on gaming.

andibandit4351d ago

Death4351d ago

Probably waiting for all the bs to blow through before someone is announced. Mr. Ballmer is in charge of Microsoft and has very little input in the Xbox brand. There are quite a few people that are responsible for what happens day to day. Steve doesn't really look like a gamer to me. Chances are sports, music, movies and live television are probably things he is more interested in. In the end that means nothing as far as Xbox goes. Should we really worry that the Xbox can do all of these things? The PS3 with its media sharing and blu-ray player didn't seem to distract from the games much. Why is this a controvercy?

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4351d ago

dont worry it will play games maybe.

vallencer4351d ago

I feel like you didn't read his comment. He never said the most important thing was sports, music, and movies all he said was "most importantly, we expanded xbox to go BEYOND". Nothing in that comment states that he thinks the most important thing are the things previously mentioned. In all fairness it doesn't surprise me that microsoft wants to do that it hasn't been a secret since like 09 of the xbox 360 being out. If they can do all that AND make great games then that works for me.

RedHawkX4351d ago

i dont get why a few gamers are supporting xbox one at this point. come to the ps4 and give sony the respect and love they deserve then when ms fixes it sh*t you can go back if you dont like the playstation. i dont see why some are trying to fight sony right now when sony is doing everything right. when you do everything right you deserve to get rewarded. now i know a lot of you get pissed at work when you are the best and doing everything right but your boss has favorites and picks his friends or something like that instead of you. so lets not be hypocrits and give our love to sony they are doing the right thing by us its only fair and it will set a precendent that those who do good by the people will always prevail.

Lykon4351d ago

Another bloated old bread head in a suit then

JsonHenry4351d ago

From a company standpoint that wants to push its many other services into the lives of customers I understand them wanting to have a games console that does much more than just play games. But you won't sell a GAMES CONSOLE by pushing it as a MEDIA HUB.

You want an example of how to get your future product to catch on? Look at the PS3 and Blu-Ray. It was sold as GAMES system that also played Blu-Ray discs. Guess which format one that war? Yeah. Blu-ray. The one that was sold in a system marketed almost solely as a games console.

You want those others features in the Xbox1, MS? Great! But give us a reason to buy the thing based on what it is- PLAYING VIDEO GAMES!!

ATi_Elite4351d ago (Edited 4351d ago )

MS whole thing with the Xbox was to gain control over the living room and so far they have done a great job and now that the Xbone will play games and be like a cable box I see MS has reached it's Goal.

I keep having to tell you CONSOLERS this isn't about MS vs. Sony (Big picture wise) but more about MS vs. Apple and it's web TV.

Long term business wise: No one gives a CRAP about Sony and it's handful of Exclusives ESPECIALLY when the console market is driven by MULTIPLATS.

I'm excited to see the Move Engines along with Cloud support take Gaming to a new level.

.....and Yes the PS4 is a beast and simple to program for so Sony Devs better bring the HEAT cause right now Titanfall is the best thing coming to consoles and the PS4 will miss out on it.

Seriously get a grip fanboys cause Sony now charges a FEE for online MP just like MS (I told you slugs this was gonna happen) and SOny will try hard to copy MS by offering Entertainment other than games like music/movies but MS has a slight advantage by getting cable companies onboard.

djfullshred4351d ago (Edited 4351d ago )

lol on the entertainment quote above. It seems pretty dumb to me turning a game console into an entertainment box for everyone, but then still calling it Xbox. When people see the name Xbox, that means game console to them. Nobody who doesn't play games is going to buy something called Xbox. And on the other side of this double edge sword, you have many gamers turned off by adding more features for more cost that are nmot the reason they normally buy this type of device. I am sure MS has a grand plan going on, but not so sure that plan aligns to what consumers really want to buy. And before saying gamers don't want all the other stuff, I know they do...but we already have this stuff. It isn't new. Baasic Blu Ray players have all the streaming apps. on devices, PCs & TVs do too. There is even cheapo devices like Roku...so TV entertainment is not a compelling feature to sell game players IMHO.

Notice how games dont even come first this is only the beginning of the entertainment box. Yusuf Medhi is gonna take over Don's position be prepared for more tv and sports.

JBSleek4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

I see that being a plus not a minus actually. Talking about it doing more than gaming that is.

jmc88884352d ago

Not really, you're forgetting everything they are adding, is already being delivered to you by someone else, and probably better.

You mean I can have my fantasy stats from NFL.com up on the screen....yeah...

Except I can watch the game and check on my stats on my PC or smartphone, and I don't need to use NFL.COM. Because if I use yahoo or ESPN or some other fantasy football site, that 'feature' is pretty much useless.

My cable box works fine as a cable box. I don't need Xbox One for that.

Wow you mean I can use my mouth instead of grabbing my remote? Big whoop.

Netflix? First on PC...and thus first on an HDTV. I also don't have to pay for xbox live to access it. Later copied by everyone else.

Hell what does the Xbox One do on this front that is better than the 360?

Microsoft has been wasting time, and oh look, they're not rushing to make the actual console.

So you'll be able to change channels with your voice but now M$ risks having major hardware problems at launch...so many might not be able to use that feature...since they rushed and have a great shot at another RRoD fiasco.

famoussasjohn4352d ago

Would it matter if they mentioned it first? We got a pretty big idea on what kind of games and the ability it has at E3. Think of the additional stuff that isn't gaming as bonus stuff if you will.

Narutone664352d ago

So, games is not their primary focus. Then we can stop comparing it to PS4 now. What XB1 is doing, I already saw in a Samsung Smart TV, including the Kinect features. Here's an ad from Samsung: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Funny thing though, it's Usher in the ad. MS once hired Usher too in their E3.

badkolo4352d ago

well then you didnt watch e3 cause ms killed it with games , they had the better show games wise so not sure what your talking aboutr

DigitalRaptor4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

It is too early to tell definitively, but this direction and enthusiasm for making money via "broad entertainment" on a gaming console hints at the XBone as a second rate gaming and a jack of all trades media device... you should be able to guess the rest.

How the Xbox loyal can even be pitching this to themselves as a good thing, I don't know. We hear "they're offering you more, how is that a bad thing?". I know when the fundamental part of a gaming console is being diluted and being distracted from by a company with a vision of making money through broader means.

When my smart TV can do all of this, when my laptop and phone and any web browser can do it. You know that this stuff is instantly accessible elsewhere and for free, so why do you all care about a company making more money by adding these redundancies at the expense of a deep gaming industry focus and the reason you buy a gaming console?

Gekko364352d ago

Are you fucking kidding me!, Sony and Microsoft want to make money, they don't like you, you're just some gobshite who pays for what they are selling.

Marketed like a big shiny toy. Both play games and do other stuff as well. Sony say PS4 is about the gamers and Microsoft says it's about gamers as well as the other TV and pushing games.

Sony and Microsoft aren't nice guys, if they could make a fortune in human trafficking they would.

Corporations are as bad as politicians, they are liars for a living!.

No you're looking at Microsoft like they came in your house on Christmas morning and pissed on your kids. Get some perspective!!

At least with Steve Balmer handling things for now, we should end up with a better marketing message for the masses.

Death4351d ago (Edited 4351d ago )

Safe to say you passed on the PS3 since it had a Bluray player then Raptor? It did nothing for gaming, added to the price and caused the system to launch late. Clearly having an additional feature is bad. I'm with you brother, I have a cell phone for talking, pager for whatever those things do/did, an mp3 player for music, carry a pad of paper, pen and calender where ever I go and a laptop for skype and texting. I also carry around a PSP and/or Gameboy for gaming on the go. Of course the camera is seperate since combining the two is stupid. Much easier to do all this then take away from my phones ability to call people.

Less is more and none of us should rest until Microsoft takes away all these useless added features that we can do seperate and less convenient.

Idiot.

Sadly, I'm not kidding you. I don't expect Sony be my friend, but I respect a company who knows how to treat consumers fairly and and not treat them as fools.

"you're looking at Microsoft like they came in your house on Christmas morning and pissed on your kids. Get some perspective!!"

I'm the one that needs perspective?? Microsoft's words, actions and attempts in recent memory has opened everyone's eyes, clearly except their most loyal. Why support a company that runs on corporate greed and puts the bottom line before the ethics of serving the consumer? Microsoft had it the wrong way around with their policies, and still have it wrong. So yeah, they almost did "piss on my kids" i.e. the industry, and the impact of that would've been irreversible, had people not opened their eyes and stood against a greedy and manipulative corporation.

@ Death

No, I didn't pass on PS3 because it had Blu-ray for the same reason I didn't pass on PS2 because it had DVD. It's a format. I waited for the price to go down, because I knew it would.

If it did nothing for gaming, then why do Microsoft now use Blu-ray and why do Nintendo have their own proprietary form of Blu-ray discs? The benefits of Blu-ray for games on consoles have become more and more apparent as time has gone on and what I just said proves it.

And I've heard that tired, boring excuse about "carrying many devices". It's just not comparable at all. THINK. A phone's main function, which is communication, will never be diluted by additional features. There is no danger of the PRIMARY focus of a phone of being lost, as it will always have the same focus on communication.

No matter how you want to defend them, Microsoft's direction and diluted focus for a gaming console's PRIMARY function is a massive distraction and if they had it their way, would be a lesser focus at the expense of what makes them more money. Listen to what Steve Ballmer wants to turn Xbox into and you can see that THAT does nothing for gaming.

This is where Steve Ballmer would like to take Xbox, as this nasty display is where the company is headed: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Sony/Valve etc, these companies give you more, but they do it the right way. A company that charges to use free services doesn't deserve anyone's respect. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Forced ads are just another addition to this inexcusably terrible direction that we all saw coming. Just watch this to see why people have issue with Microsoft. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

These issues are not just in "the minds of Sony fanboys", as much as you'd like to believe otherwise.

isn't Steve Ballmer turned record profits while he was in charge of Microsoft?

dedicatedtogamers4352d ago

He is still in charge of Microsoft (the CEO) and no, I think he's actually lost Microsoft money, though it may not necessarily be his fault.

AFAIK, Microsoft's value prior to Ballmer was somewhere around $550 billion and now it's down below $300 billion.

Loki864352d ago

Where do you get your facts, obviously not from anywhere reliable. MS has increased it's total revenue every year except the transitional year when Ballmer took over.

http://www.statista.com/sta...

MikeMyers4352d ago

Not sure where he gets his facts. Perhaps The Official Playstation Magazine or The National Enquirer. A few weeks ago he said the Xbox One would not support used games even though it did before the DRM was dropped. Does anyone know why he still insist in frequenting Xbox One topics?

The original Xbox lost Microsoft quite a bit of money, the Xbox 360 made money.

http://www.microsoft.com/en...

2009 is the only year Microsoft didn't not have any growth since 2003 (which is how far that dates back).

Q3 for 2013,

http://www.theverge.com/201...

"Revenues for its business division grew 5 percent to $6.1 billion, while the entertainment and devices division grew 33 percent to $2.2 billion (year-over-year, after adjustments). Xbox Live in particular had a nice quarter — the service now has 46 million users, up 18 percent from one year ago."

PirateThom4352d ago (Edited 4352d ago )

The thing you need to remember with Microsoft is that their investors really want them out of gaming. Ballmer, like him or hate him, is the one keeping the brand in place and fighting against the share holders on it.

The PR disaster the XBone has been won't sit well with the shareholders either and Ballmer accepting a more direct approach may be their appeasement so another disaster falls on Ballmer's head directly and they can get rid of him and the biggest defender of the XBox Microsoft has at high levels or leave him with no choice but to drop the brand should it go to hell.

EXVirtual4351d ago

True. But from reading that article, it seems that Ballmer is trying to please the investors by making it in all in one device. Next year at E3, it'll all be about system updates for TV and music.

I like yor points. I really don't think the bad PR is gonna stop and coincidentally, the highest guy in the xbox division leaving the company during this disaster doesn't look good on Microsoft. The disaster is probably get worse, especially if they put back in the DRM when they sell enough units. Then they'll either get rid of this guy, then get rid of the Xbox division or, he gives up on the Xbox and they investors shut it down with his approval.

Death4351d ago

Why would you even think that is a possibility? Xbox makes Microsoft money. The userbase expanded this gen from 25 million to 80 million. You think this is a warning sign of things to come?

Sony is much closer to pulling the plug on the console business than Microsoft and I still don't see that happening either.

PirateThom4351d ago (Edited 4351d ago )

You may not see it happening but the shareholders and board at Microsoft have wanted the brand sold or spun off for years because, to be frank, the Xbox brand still hasn't made a profit. Yearly, yes. Overall? Never and it likely never will. The brand has made 0 profit. It is down almost $3bn over the past 10 years with profits down last year from 2011.

This isn't some sort of dream or speculation based on a poor reveal. This is shareholders wanting to make money off a brand which is, overall, in negatives. Sony has lost way more on the PS3 but the PS brand has been profitable but it's wholly irrelevant to bring up.

Death4351d ago (Edited 4351d ago )

Thom,

Where do you get these numbers from? Companies do not carry losses year after year. I suppose you can take the net losses and profits from each year to see where they stand if you want to track it that way, but that isn't how investing works. Each fiscal year is new and profits are either paid as dividends or losses are paid by the companies reserves. If the company doesn't have reserves, loans are taken out and calculated into the companies budget. Shareholders really don't give a damn how a company makes money, they just want their investments to pay dividends. Not sure which shareholders are demanding Microsoft off the EDD. If I were a shareholder I would be happy the division is contributing to my stocks value and making me money. Sony on the other hand lost money as a company 4 years in a row and sold off assets to prevent a 5th. The stock was lowered to junk status which doesn't typically sit well with investors. I could see some investors wanting non-profitable divisions axed, but even then it's probably a bad idea without an alternate plan of generating revenue.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012...

http://www.engadget.com/201...

http://www.techradar.com/us...

http://gamer.blorge.com/201...

I've seen the 2.8 billion lost over the life of the Xbox brand. I've also seen where the Playstation brand has lost 5 billion. It's still not counted like that so both numbers are irrelevant.

JBSleek4352d ago

It is also likely because Microsoft is doing a major reconstructing of executives and their business models so with this news they likely will have to push that back a bit to find someone to replace him.

The rumors were he was going to be one of the big three executives to get more power as MSFT turned Xbox into more of a brand and service.

Is there really a market for handhelds next to mobile?

Vits1d 18h ago

If they run the same games as the main home console, then yeah, sure.
But if they need specially tailored games just for them? Probably not, unless there isn't a home console for comparison (see Switch).

RaidenBlack1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

I am kinda low-key happy this happened.
Dont want another Series S situation (games to be designed from 4 to 12TF scale and not 10 to 12TF).
Hope PS follows suit as well. Tablet SKU sharing with console for 10th gen, will just continue the cross gen -esque development/design phase/nature.
Want a proper 20+ only TF rasterized next-gen plz (+ frame-gen and the lot).
If anybody wants to continue the cross-gen, the Series S|X, PS5 will remain for that. And Switch 2, if you gotta go even lower in the TF range.

ABizzel11d 14h ago

Yes and No. All of the PC handhelds combined have struggled to sell 7 million units, which would be a flop for any “console”. So the market is extremely niche because of price and target market (the informed hardcore gamer / casuals aren’t picking these up).

These handheld PCs are $500 or more, and offer at best Xbox Series S performance levels, so it’s best for MS specifically to just partner with ASUS, instead of investing millions if not billions.

Sony can make their own with custom AMD hardware due to their partnership, and stronger global brand for hardware. But even then it brings the question, of being a lower resolution PS5, and what does that mean for PS6 cross-gen (likely another generation where the first 3 - 4 years are just upgraded last-gen games).

Kosic1d 12h ago

Imagine a Wii U style console, where the tablet doesn't rely on the console it's self, you download the game on the console under the TV and play in 4k glory, then you can remote play, get some unique game features if using both console and handheld in tandem. Then you can download the games in 720-1080p to play on the go, continue your progress, and continue on the TV when you get back.

Sony could get away with this due to exclusives, and that would be a reason for sales. Look at the portal.

I can picture seeing new hardware having some sort of GPU dock, where the handheld runs 1080p, and the dock has additional hardware to bring in 4k/60 specs.

I do think handheld gaming is going to be a strong future, imagine Nintendo release a new upgraded GPU dock for the Switch 3, every 2 years. More frames, sharper graphics on the same game for an extra £150 for a dock with a built in GPU chip. Console cycles doesn't have to be renewed, just the hardware can be improved by them reselling docks to us again and again with small/yearly upgrades like mobile phones.

GamerRN1d 4h ago

Did you just imply that Sony can make a better stronger handheld than Microsoft? You do realize we are talking about Microsoft, the tech giant, right? If Microsoft can't make one that's cost effective, Sony definitely can't...

Brand and market share means nothing when you are a trillion dollar company

ABizzel112h ago

@GamerRN

It has nothing to do with what company can do it, or what company can spend.

For anyone taking a basic business class there is a term called ROI, and Xbox home consoles are selling at an all time low, meaning their ROI on a handheld is a risk that doesn’t make sense, even if they can afford it. Businesses are there to make money and it doesn’t make sene for MS to invest in a handheld that’s a companion device when their current home consoles they’ve spent 20 years working on are at an all time-low, when they can invest with little risk with what ASUS already has to offer.

This is why Sony can build a better device, because they have less risk involved, meaning they can invest more in their own product, and they already have an exclusive partnership with AMD on creating features and hardware. So in this specific case, YES Sony can built a better handheld, due to custom hardware, customer tools, low level APIs, compared to an off the shelf product running Windows or a Window Xbox kernel =.

Funny to see the alt already damage controlling and having a meltdown with multiple accounts in the comments already.

Sad for MS if true, a dedicated handheld would go down a lot better than a rog ally 2 with an Xbox sticker on it I think.

crazyCoconuts1d 19h ago

It couldn't have succeeded for a number of reasons. Now they've retreated to the Windows front and trying to keep that relevant for gaming. How long before Windows Central realizes there won't be a real console successor to Series X either?

Lightning771d 15h ago

Except there is. That project is reportedly full speed ahead.

Outside_ofthe_Box1d 12h ago

@Lighting77

So was the handheld until today...

Lightning771d 12h ago

@outside obviously not since they sidelined it and they wanna see how the Asus does. Are you saying they're gonna cancel the next console?

crazyCoconuts1d 12h ago

@lightning - I'm admittedly trying to box you in here - Do you think the next Xbox console will have Steam on it?

Outside_ofthe_Box1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

@Lightning

Here we go with having to spell everything out.

If I told you yesterday that Xbox was going to sideline the handheld console what would your response have been? Probably something along the lines of "I doubt that since Phil has been talking about it for some time now"

My point is just because they are "full speed" ahead now does not mean that will not change in future. As we have seen with the handheld. Do you understand what I'm trying to say now?

Lightning771d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

Box me in? No you said the same thing you've always been saying for years now. Those are the rumors to have Steam integration.

What about it

If you told me they were gonna cancel it tomorrow it would nothing more than fanboy talking points. I only wait for credible sources not what someone else says.

Also this is the handheld not a full blown new console. The Asus is yet to release and they're waiting to see how that thing does. Critical thinking is my strong suit you should try it some time if you can. But Ok cool well you hang your hat on that I guess. Main New console is gonna get cancelled even though the handheld is a different marketing device than the main the console itself.

__y2jb1d 2h ago

I think there is a 75% chance there will not be another Xbox. There is zero reason to buy one now. No way it can possibly sell more than 10m units after Xbox went third party.

BLow1d 17h ago

That's what they do. Goalposts shift like the wind.

I'm really confused on why they are making a "first party" device and also have a Rog Ally with their sticker on it. Make this make sense. How is their own device going to be any different?

Your console doesn't sell and they expect a handheld to?

RaidenBlack1d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

The Rog Ally one is gen agnostic ... as you deciphered, it was to be the updated Rog Ally but just with Xbox branding. PC handheld with some Xbox features.
The handheld Xbox is/was supposed to be sharing the same gen/ecosystem with the next-gen (10th gen) Xbox. Think Series S but handheld ... it'll run the Xbox OS or whatever the next Xbox will run.
...
As for anybody wondering/confused why MS is doing another Xbox console ... coz mainly its the 10th gen of home consoles next, which started wayy back in 1972 for the 1st gen. And MS wanna be part in it, in the 10th anniversary gen of consoles. If they gotta bow out, they can't do that at 9th i.e just before 10th. They wanna stick around till the 10th or the X-th gen and check what the fuss happens.

Outside_ofthe_Box1d 12h ago

Curious as to what excuses the spam was saying. Because prior to this news, the Xbox handheld was used as proof that Xbox is still committed to the hardware space. This handheld being scraped is not a good sign...

I've seen videos and talk a online speculating MS long game. Some think that MS multiplat move is use to appease the FTC so they can buy more and is somehow a move that could get Sony to open up their platform. In other words them going third party and letting their games go everywhere. MS possible scheme and ulterior motives, speculated by Jeff Grubb is that putting Xbox store on PS via regulation Which would hurt PS buissness very badly because that 30% cut would be even less or not a cut at all. MS buys more because they're "playing nice" by opening up its platform to Epic store and steam which would force Apple and Sony to open up their ecosystem to other stores like MS.

If that's the case that'll mean as I said before, PS fans buying Cod on PS via MS store would give 100% maybe even 90% of the money being pocketed by MS while Sony's store front wanes when it comes to third party because guess what? MS is buying more third party and preying off the extreme ignorance of the FTC. Manipulation of the FTC and MS overtaking the PS store and customers

My thing is this. I know it's a opinion and speculation but why does Sony have to open up its store or force them to go multiplat? If they still believe in selling their freakin console then let them do it. If they want to provide the best games and the best content for its fans then let them do it!? Why because the competition is trash at selling games and consoles for 14 years now Sony has to change? MS using the ignorance of the FTC to overtake gaming as we know it?

Again it's just talk and opinion but man this seems very, very possible imo.

dveio8d ago

Well, at the time, I actually did think the FTC and CMA did a poor job in court. But also the judge.

Having said that - it is what it is.

If 75bn mergers in any industry ain't a threshold to deny them, then I don't know what is.

As far as your thoughts about other 3rd parties getting taken over in the future go:

I think publisher buyouts are off the list now. I think it would be reeeeally difficult for MS to win another trial try taking over any other publisher.

But smaller studios ... maybe.

However, right now I can't see studios out there advocating for a buyout from Microsoft.

That isn't to say an announcement of such couldn't drop on Monday already. Because we today know that Microsoft had approached a plethora of other studios in 2018 to 2021, such as IOI, CD Project, etc.

We'll see. And we can't do anything about it. It's up to trade commissions and then probably courts to decide.

Lightning778d ago (Edited 8d ago )

"I think publisher buyouts are off the list now. I think it would be reeeeally difficult for MS to win another trial try taking over any other publisher."

That's the thing MS is ticking all the boxes by not have anything be exclusive so the CMA/FTC see that they're doing "fair practice" in games and content distribution. Which technically greenlits more aquisions or it makes it easier for acquisitions because MS is a mega publisher now.

"However, right now I can't see studios out there advocating for a buyout from Microsoft."

Hopefully not but them going multiplat could entice Studios to join MS because nothing is not longer exclusive which means more money for them, studio and teams.

We can't do nothing about it but Sony can. They can block xbox games on their console (lose that 30% cut) but Sony won't do that because that's money that will be lost and Sony runs a buissness. That's the only way to hurt or slow down Xbox.

I'm probably over thinking it as I do these things but it's something we shouldn't just ignore and be weary of MS motives here. I'm keeping an eye on them.

Rancegamerx8d ago

The idea that Microsoft is manipulating the FTC and forcing Sony to open its platform is silly and has no evidence to back it up. Microsoft’s multiplatform approach is 100% due to past failures and its laughable position in the gaming industry. Their best attempt was a fluke and a lie, brought on by Sony’s missteps and a poorly made machine that broke down too often.

Sony would never allow themselves to be "forced" to do anything; they control their platform and storefront perfectly fine without the need or desire to add an unnecessary Microsoft storefront. Even if, by some flaw on Sony’s part, Microsoft were able to introduce its store on PlayStation, Sony would adapt rather than collapse. Digital storefront competition already exists (Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Store), and PlayStation’s business won’t suddenly "wane."

Also, regulators like the FTC don’t operate on ignorance—they actively assess market behavior to prevent monopolies. Microsoft isn’t secretly overtaking gaming with some ultimate scheme. The industry might be changing or shifting (for the worse, in my opinion), but Sony will continue evolving based on market trends, not because of alleged schemes.

Gaming isn’t about one company "playing nice" or another being "forced" to change—it’s about making money with games, something Microsoft has yet to achieve in 25+ years.

Lightning778d ago

"The idea that Microsoft is manipulating the FTC and forcing Sony to open its platform is silly and has no evidence to back it up."

That's why I said it was all speculation that's what Jeff Grubb opinion. I made that clear several times. You know what's funny? When Jim was in court ppl got mad at the FTC for protecting Jim Ryan instead of the consumer. Maybe he was right to worry about his business. Now look Releasing Xbox games on PS keeps MS studio an a float. Now Xbox games are all over PS now. Maybe Jim was onto something.

MS is still competing with Sony just in a very different way. The FTC back down mainly means they can buy more and MS next steps can proceed. We'll have to see what happens in the future but I wouldn't be so sure on your stance.

InUrFoxHole8d ago

@Lightning77
MS putting games everywhere is the most consumer friendly thing I've seen a game company do.

dveio8d ago

@InUrFox

What does "putting everywhere" actually mean?

This book has so many pages.

• Xbox was dying in revenue
• Regulators put a 10 year deal on CoD
• Microsoft had to give away the streaming
• Spencer himself only offered 3 yrs initially

And most importantly

• Again, Xbox was dying in revenue

Xbox have the benefit of their actual financial situation giving regulators and courts the impression they release games everywhere, what they actually do.

But for reasons they can't be proven guilty of anything in court.

I'm not judging, it's just what it is.

IF the Series generation would have developed differently and was much more successful, I don't hesitate any second to believe in what Spencer had originally planned to do:

• Make everything Xbox exclusive
• We today know that Spencer had also approached Sega, From Software, CD Project, Nintendo, and even Valve was on their list of buyouts.

MS are playing a card here everyone knows why they are doing it.

Putting Doom "everywhere", which even was it already before it got bought, ain't a MS thing.

It would had hurt them in many ways if they'd put it exclusively to Xbox.

But, no matter what - it is what it is.

Xbox bought themselves back into the game. And I think many people just don't have very fond feelings towards this behaviour, wether on corporate nor private levels.

Let's see how they'll run with it.

In 2030, but most importantly after regulations will have expired we will learn better.

Reaper22_8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Seemed like a lost cause anyway. Microsoft gambled and it paid off big time. That's what you call a big boss move. Sony played a huge part in the success of that acquisition.

Microsoft wins FTC appeal challenging $69 billion Activision Blizzard deal

May 7 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Wednesday rejected a legal challenge by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to Microsoft's (MSFT.O), opens new tab $69 billion purchase of “Call of Duty” maker Activision Blizzard.
The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower judge's order that said the FTC was not entitled to a preliminary injunction blocking the deal, which closed in 2023.

Christopher24d ago

That's not at all how this works. Sony made deals Microsoft, the trillion dollar company couldn't? You think that's what won them this case?

This wasn't seen as a act of attempting to monopolize the industry. Plain and simple.

Obscure_Observer24d ago

"Indeed. When sony got exposed with some of their deals it was pretty much game over."

And now that MS is releasing all of its Xbox games for all platforms, Phil is free to buy whatever studio or publisher he wants and FTC won´t have a case to say sh!t.

What? Exposed? Deals? Stop talking gibberish.

On topic:
Hope MS’s xbox continues to go down the drain for this. I love how this deal was the nail in xbox’s coffin when some of the corporation worshippers here were hoping MS would deprive others from games that otherwise everyone would be able to play. Instead, MS was forced to put its own games on other platforms to pay for the billions they spent on this mergers/acquisitions. Hope they choke on it.

Right. And they stated from the beginning that their intent was not to keep games off of plastation. Microsoft served subpoenas on Sony to produce documents and testimony related to the lawsuit, and the FTC ordered Sony to disclose information about its third-party exclusivity deals. And it exposed their dealings with other publishers to keep games off xbox and Gamepass. That is what helped them most in securing the deal.

PhillyDonJawn24d ago

Right, however 10 years from now (gen after next) ms could very well reverse that and get away with it. They'd already have made their money back from the purchase, any contract deal they signed would've be honored and finally expired

__y2jb24d ago

Let’s not rewrite history though. They only went multi platform because they were forced to. They failed to compete so badly it was that or close Xbox completely.

@obscured: “ Final nail in FTC´s coffin!”
Supreme Court here we gooooo 🎼 🎼 🎼🎹 🤣

UltimateOwnage24d ago

lol, celebrating consolidation. Good thing this is the deal that broke Microsoft’s back and made them go the 3rd party route on every platform.

Rockstar24d ago

Obscure will always cheer Microsoft. It doesn't matter the subject matter.

Wait... they were still not done with this deal?

Christopher24d ago

No. FTC has multiple appeals since then. It was very unlikely they would win any, but they still had them. People claiming it was over with the first judge ruling don't understand how the law works and what avenues the FTC had available to them even though appeals are quite normal.

1Victor23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

It goes like this in the USA first trial the court of appeals it can be a partial court of judges if so after you got another appeal to the full court then after goes the supreme with a non full court after it’s another appeal to the full court when the full court decide on it then it’s over till then anything can happen.
Edit I forgot to say that this is a simplified version of things it can take multiple years to get through all the appeals on both sides

This FTC case provided fascinating insight into gamers' views on economics/politics. It's very common for gamers to blame capitalism for many of the negative trends in the industry, but as soon as the U.S. government started exercising one of the most recognized limitations on capitalism (monopoly regulation), most gamers turned into libertarians and starting spouting Republican talking points (or at least pre-Trump era Republican talking points, lol) on "government staying out of the way of private businesses."

red2tango23d ago

They weren't told how to think on this topic so it let them use their brains without being told what to think about a topic. They ended up being reasonable and rational.

Traecy24d ago

I remember when certain people here were saying they weren't going third party, guessing to recoup that 69 billion they are doing just that.

Reaper22_24d ago

They said the same about sony. Now you can play Playstation games on PC/ xbox.

TriniOutsider24d ago

What PlayStation is game is Xbox?

JEECE24d ago

@TriniOutsider

MLB The Show. But arguably that is a special case. The seemingly accepted story behind that is that MLB told Sony they had to start making the game multiplatform to keep the MLB license. I haven't ever read definitive proof that happened, but assuming that (or something like it) is true, that isn't really indicative of a multiplatform trend in the same way that MS's recent launches on PS5 are.

Traecy24d ago

The only PlayStation owned games on XB is Destiny 2 which was already multiplatform & MLB The Show & that's because it's licensed by the MLB & wanted the game multiplatform. XB first party legendary exclusives are going multiplatform as well as the new games that were supposed to be exclusive to the XB gaming console. It looks though the XB gaming console will have minimal timed exclusives to no exclusives at all.

InUrFoxHole24d ago

@TriniOutsider
Get those gloves ready my boy. Gonna need em to move those goal posts. Think with your brain not your gamer heart. You think sony sees ms making all this money and says.. ok get that without us. Help me out here my guy! Sony charged you for psn, then they put their games on pc. What do you think is going to happen next?

PanicMechanic24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Well said, hahahaha that’s so smart and intelligent and not gaslighty my man. you can now definitely play a lot of Ps games on Xbox. That’s the argument. That’s the point. Well done. PS is going third party. Wow, congratulations, no one realised it. Emphasis again on: it’s PlayStation making the moves to put games on Xbox AND PC. I can’t think of another publisher that’s actually doing that…. Mmmmmmm…. Anyway. Only Sony is doing that and not anyone else, not at all.

MS already recouped that $$... the first year.

IRetrouk23d ago

They also lost money on activision in the last few quarters too dont forget, ms make money hand over fist, that's not new, but I highly doubt the investment has paid off yet.

Kekewei24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

To be honest as a long time ps gamer, this deal initially made me panic.

but if I had known that it make MS u-turn on exclusive strategy, I would have happily joined xbox fans supporting the acquisition.

Reaper22_24d ago

They never made a u-turn. Initially Microsoft offered sony a 10 year deal but they turned it down but eventually they agreed. They've always said they wouldn't keep games away from playstation. But that is something Sony was doing to them.

sinspirit24d ago

That's the thing. They said they did not aim to take games away from the competition with the acquisitions and that they weren't taking games away from PlayStation. But then they try to get Sony to sign a 10 year deal just to show to a court that they aren't keeping games away. Sony saw this as a tactic to make their acquisitions look like good faith but in reality they don't need to sign that 10 year contract. They just gotta keep developing games for the console. Then they still excluded games from Sony anyways which is what they wanted while saying they didn't. They are only now going third party because they couldn't monopolize the hardware side of things and they ruined their software sales by trying to make everything a service and now we see them continuously bumping the price and changing policies to stop losing money.

Kekewei24d ago

Yes they did. I mean I was worried about Elder Scrolls series leaving playstation those days, but now I can play Forza horizon and Gears of War on ps5… this is a crazy turn of events

InUrFoxHole24d ago

@Reaper22
You are 💯 correct however we also have to consider these companies lie all the time. Or make plans and change them

IRetrouk23d ago

They certainly did make a u turn, how you can claim otherwise is beyond me.
