Aussie retailers neglect Wii U in favour of next gen hardware

Nintendo's Wii U is struggling so much that games retailer EB Games has bumped it from its website's homepage, favouring next gen consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4 along with current gen hardware.

While Microsoft and Sony gaming devices dominate prominent placement on the site, the Wii U has even been bumped by PC, a platform that relies almost exclusively on digital sales. Wii U on the other hand needs retailers like EB Games, as its digital foothold isn't strong enough to entice gamers to download games through the console's online store.

Yep I think NZ retailers have gone that way too with dicksmith sold them of very cheap but i don't care. I'm happy with my wii u and it's about the games i like to play that interest me first then the hardware.

Why Nintendo isnt going for a best graphics console? Wii graphics sucked and WiiU graphics isnt even better than PS360

It's more like between PS360 and PS4one ~ a little head of old but more so behind current. That doesn't make it a bad console, you could have come back from the future with a PS5 but it means nothing but if it doesn't have the games. Like many others I'll be doing the WiiU/PS4 Combo.

The wiiU is a good console and it just need more 3rd party games and that Nintendo works faster to deliver more exclusive games to their home console.

I was expecting that new SKU nintendo already announced to Japan , the white console would gain better batttery life on the gamepad + more ssd size would also come to the west after an announcement at E3.

The BigN have been doing a great job on delivering good games on the 3DS but the WiiU atm looks like a Sega32x( in terms of number of good games)

Price is a big big factor.

Wii U basic = ( AU$348 ) -- premium = ( AU$428 ) simply way too much and no variety in games plus last-gen.
And games are also steep - about AU$80 a pop.

PS4 ( AU$548/9 ) roughly about only a AU$120 difference and it's next-gen new.

XBox ONE ( AU$598/9 ) AU$170 difference plus next-gen new.

Games for PS4 and XBox ONE are between AU$94 to AU$120 - *more than half compared to U.S. **excluding shipping rates if you're thinking of ordering them overseas, since games are zone-free but expect some non-gaming features to be invalid ( like promos and such. )

If Nintendo would drop basic to 248 and premium to 348, maybe just maybe they could get more to buy.

Wii U has the advantage of free online.

Same as PC, free online but also one major advantage over next gen consoles : cheaper games. You'll be spending at least the minimum price of a good gaming PC on a next gen console when you factor in the price of online subscription & the price of games and the console its self.

You are absolutely right but people will never see that... People usually dont think as much about stuff :) And finally advertising will decide, and pc doesnt really have any advertising.
I have had a PC for gaming since wolfenstein 3D and its the best thing with the biggest innovations (occulus rift!), best graphics, cheapest games, wide controller choices, best media and social networking integration, free online and i could go on...
Its the best thing for gaming but people would rather buy a small advertised box (with pc hardware) that is very limited in its use.

Look how gamers are praising the skype integration on xbox one.... Ive been doing the exact same thing on my PC for over 10 years!

To be honest, if they were giving them away I'd have to debate whether or not it was worth the fuel to get to the store. I just don't see anything that interests me on this console. Sorry, but I can't be the only one.
New machines are supposed to 'blow you away' in some way, you're supposed to think "wow thats amazing, I want one". I'm not necessarily talking graphics, just something, anything. Remakes of old games in HD just don't cut it.

Because of articles like this Nintendo finds itself in a very peculiar situation. They have made some bad mistakes but they can pull themselves out. To be honest it all starts from the top if Iwata isn't stepping down he needs to be more aggressive. A good example is Tmoble they were losing customers left and right. Got a new CEO all of a sudden they have customers coming back every day.

The Marketing department needs to be fired how do you release a system and not come up with better marketing than people playing the games in cubes? If they would have given me a few million dollars I could have advertised the thing better.

For one you have talk shows, playoffs, Movie theatres, Cartoon networks, Magazine and so many different outlets to market your product.

I think Nintendo got ahead of itself and rested on it's laurels for one they never developed HD games and didn't realize how tough it was. They released the wrong Mario game this Mario 3d game should have been the first one released. But they didn't have a Wii U sports game available.

The worst thing about the game pad is it has no processor and no flash drive so that you can take it with you like a tablet if I am Nintendo that's the next thing I do is make a add on and give it tablet features.

Why do we find ourselves constantly saying the same things - yet nothing happens :
-needs 3rd party support
-needs faster delivery of 1st party AAA
-needs fresh new MATURE and kiddy ips from 1st party
-needs completely new marketing
-needs to price cut huge as there system is a joke in comparison to upcoming NS and Sony

All this proves Ninny needs new leadership.

Until the new Xeno game or some new Fire Emblem game released there is nothing worth playing in a Wii U for me, I stop playing platform games when I was 12-13 years old, games like Mario & Crash r more suited for little kids imo I'm too old to play those kind of games anymore.
