WC writes: Ah, Worms. Has there ever been a game series as timeless? Though its formula hasn’t changed since its inception in the early 90s, the franchise, which sees players take it in turns to try and strategically eliminate their opponents with the weaponry available to them, remains popular on platforms such as the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.
On paper, its enduring popularity is confusing – why do people still wish to play a game with such a basic concept when there are much more advanced games that also involve strategy and the elimination of other players? The answer is a simple one – hilarity.
Nothing epitomises the comedy of the series more than some of the bizarre weapons that have been included in the series over the years. Though it is possible to fight with an arsenal of conventional and practical weapons, such as bazookas, grenades, shotguns, baseball bats and even nuclear bombs, it’s much more enjoyable to eradicate one’s foes with the items subsequently listed in this short and sweet piece.
Dave writes: "Being a bit of an old-timer, I remember the launch of Worms. As an owner of an Atari ST, I’d read all of the Amiga magazines simply because games would hit the Amiga first, and our team would get them in due course. There’d be a tinge of envy as I’d make a wishlist of the games to get when they arrived on the ST, and I remember Worms being one of them."
"Team 17 and Evercade are today very proud and excited to announce that the "Worms Collection 1” pack (which includes "Worms", "Worms Armageddon", and "Worms Blast") is coming to the Evercade console in May 2021" - Jonas Ek, TGG.
Some Video Game franchises have weapons that are imaginative, unconventional and downright bizarre. This is a good thing. Join us as we investigate nine of the best.
I'm surprised Ratchet & Clank wasn't on the list. Late Saint's Row games, with more imaginative weapons like the Shark gun and the armchair with guns would fit on a part two list as well
Thank you to everyone for your excellent suggestions. They have all been added to the list for part two which should be published by the end of the month :-)
The guy that wrote this got it wrong, the Dragon Ball move is not taken from Street Fighter, it's from the Anime Dragon Ball, everyone knows that. Street Fighter just ripped off Dragon Ball's Kamehameha technique.
