MGO2 Starter Pack Details

Metal Gear Online (MGO), the multiplayer experience that combines the rich Metal Gear Solid universe with online combat, returns exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3!

Customizable Characters
Your first task after enlisting is to create your MGO alter ego. Design your own unique character from dozens of possible combinations, and keep an eye out for additional gear updates!

Metal Gear Characters...?
Intel indicates the presence of Old Snake and Metal Gear Mk.II somewhere on the battlefield... What other Metal Gear characters might be lurking in the shadows?

16-Player Battles
In the new MGO, combat gets an upgrade from a maximum of 8 to now 16 players -- trusted allies in team games, or heated rivals in solo play! The more players on the ground, the more intense the action.

Expect a multitude of communication features, an essential component of any online game. From the all-encompassing SOP system to a deep support network bringing players closer together off the battlefield, MGO has you covered!

SOP System
The SOP System allows you to visually share information among your squad by linking your internal nanomachines. Information like your teammates' positions, status, and even who they're engaging with will all be provided to you in real-time. It also works through walls, letting you identify individuals by their digital silhouette.

Gain the upper hand by scanning your enemy team's link and share their information with your comrades.

In this MGO, intercommunication and adaptive teamwork decide the outcome!

Friend Registration, Mail, SNS
On the battlefield, you need somebody watching your back. No more flying solo. Now thanks to MGO's easy-to-use Friend Registration system, it's easy to send friend invites to people you've fought alongside with. And keep in touch with your new comrades outside of the game using our mail and SNS communication systems.

If the starter pack has 5 maps, the full game must have a LOT.

It will be interesting to see how many there will be. Do we know if the extra stuff besides the starter pack will be available from day 1 with new stuff after that or if we will have only the starter pack for a while? Either way, the story will be given my time at least twice before I play any online. (Not including the beta)

ATLRoAcH4193d ago

Thats what we need.Supposedly if you pre-order it you will get to participate in the beta.I hope we get more info on the beta soon.

AlterEgo4193d ago (Edited 4193d ago )

Here's whats been confirmed so far in regards to the beta:

Starting in April, Konami is having a "pre-order" program available at all major retailers. You go into a store in April, pre-order MGS4, and you receive a "MGS Saga 2.0 DVD" disc

the MGS Saga 2.0 DVD
- chronicles the MGS saga to date (to catch up on all the info you need)
- contains Character Bios for Big Boss, Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake
- Making-Of Videos of MGS4
- All MGS4 Trailers to date (International and otherwise)

and inside the packaging, there's an insert containing the "Metal Gear Online Beta download code and download information"

Not EVERYONE who pre-orders will get into the beta because supplies are going to be limited. Not severely limited, but there's not an infinite amount of beta codes.

The Beta will start on April 21st, 2008 and run for approx. 2 weeks.

I've pre-ordered already from the dreaded Gamestop, and the program starts in April, but supposedly you'll be able to take your pre-order receipt in to the store and just grab the Pre-Order bonus disc.

If not, you can just cancel the pre-order and re-pre-order...if that makes sense.

Hope that helps.

Oh and on March 21st, the prices and features of the 3 different MGS4 skus will be revealed.

Skerj4193d ago

That's possibly the greatest preorder incentive yet. I'll take care of it tomorrow, I forgot it earlier when I went to go pay for FES.

ATLRoAcH4193d ago

Thanks man.Thats the info I needed.I'll just wait until April and pre-order it when it goes into effect.I'm sure more and more info will come along as time goes by.Thanks again and have a bubble.

AlterEgo4193d ago

Thanks, gotcha back

and @ Skerj, maybe you should wait for April...I didn't, but I may go back and cancel it and wait for April so I don't have any problems

what kind of BS beta last for only 2 WEEKS. Hopefully they do it like warhawk and they extend it but with only 2 weeks of beta time will gamers be able to get adequate test time with this game and more importantly will they even be able to implement our feedback?

Aside from that those are some pretty good looking maps. I remember grozny grad from mgs3. Can't wait to find a nice hiding spot and start sniping. MGS4 is going to be game of the yr. With all the gamesblow predictions and the surfer girl and surfer boy, i deserve the right to make mine. As it stands now though mgs4 is the first contender for game of the yr. GTA4 will be good but i doubt it can win game of the yr. I think little big planet also has a very legit shot at winning game of the yr as well

hazeblaze4193d ago

Two weeks is PLENTY of time for the purpose of finding bugs & testing the game. And if we want the game to make it's June date than we certainly don't want them extending the beta any longer than necessary so that they DO have time to implement any changes based on our feedback.

Plus, they've already been testing internally and have had a beta in Japan. So the only issues they are likely to be addressing our server related.

I actually wasn't too psyched for MGO until today. I mean MGS4 was always on the top of my list, but I expected to log into MGO a few times and probably move on. Now I think I might put in some serious time into it, they do have some innovative ideas going for them and I loved MGO in MGS3 and MGPO.

I'm really intrigued by the Metal Gear characters on the battlefield. If we have to fight Snake or anyone else WHILE fighting the other team, that will kick ass. He'd be like an AI Predator with the Octocam. We'd be trying to hold a position against the other team and he'd be laying right next to someone and then rise up and choke them out. If that truly does happen in the game. ..I'm in for the long haul.
