Resident Evil 6 Review | Paste

There’s a new Resident Evil game. It’s hard to ignore that, unless your name is Mega Man, six is kind of a lot. Sure, there were detours into Zeros, Codes: Veronica and those light gun games nobody plays, but time has marched on and those numbers after “Resident Evil” continue to rise. The slow forward march of the series’ narrative has officially taken its toll, and the stakes have never seemed lower.

After playing for most of yesterday I think two things should have been fixed prior to releasing....

1.) Way too many quick-time events that RIP you right out of the game. They are way too frequent for anyone's enjoyment.
2.) The inventory system is anything but convenient and is actually counter-intuitive to the gameplay itself.

There are other issues and such (not being able to pause online, camera issues, lack of ammo, etc.) , but all and all I'd say that this game isn't nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

I like the skills customization option, the game looks pretty good and it's been an enjoyable ride for the most part. I can see why hardcore RE fans are mad, but it appears to be better than RE5 (to me at least).

there isn't really any games that you play online that you can pause, Everyone else in the game is going to keep playing with or without you usually. I enjoy running low on ammo and searching for items and ammo personally. Makes me think about how much ammo I have to work with. At least in the Leon campaign I just started Chris' and there seems to be more ammo laying around. The camera (at times) could be annoying, especially when running. I'm really enjoying this game so far though.People should try it for themselves before the knock it. It's some of the best multiplayer I have played all year.

MasterD9194591d ago (Edited 4591d ago )

I agree (as well as with the guy below me). However, when the player goes into their inventory, the character just sits there...which makes me believe that if someone wanted to pause in a multiplayer/co-op setting, that shouldn't be too far off from that. It's possible, but I see why they didn't do it (as well as someone just sitting on a pause screen for a while).

The ammo is a different story and it's not a major issue for me. That is the way the RE series works. Its about tactics, conservation and playing styles...but sometimes no matter how many crates or enemies I've taken care of, the knife just won't work as my only option. Yesterday, I fought the invisible snake-creature and all I had was a knife. It just didn't work out that well...

But honestly, I find this game pretty entertaining. I don't however understand mercenaries mode...I kill everything in sight as fast as possible and get maybe one medal. Am I missing something?

@MasterD919 bubbles up for actually having a conversation!

I think on Mercenaries the goal is to try and get as must time on your side and kill everything. I think after you kill 150 enemies you get a secret box. But i don't know whats in it myself :/ I have only played like 3 rounds of it cause I have been busy with the campaign.

I remember at the end of 5 i literally had to kill Wesker with a knife cause I was completely out of ammo, It's just something that happens in Resident Evil i guess haha

I think an easy fix for pausing an online game is having both players press pause. It doesn't have to be at the exact same time but as long as both press pause the game should just stop until one player decides to get back in the game.

You have to melee the big hour glasses that are placed all around the map to gain more time. and you get extra time for killing enemies in certain ways too. I just finished Leon's campaign last night and started Chris' and they have totally different feels i enjoy that cause it kind of feels like I bought 2 games. It's most def going to take longer than 2 days haha, I play it with the spare time I got so i'm sure i"ll have be playing for a while.

MasterD9194591d ago (Edited 4591d ago )

That makes sense for Mercenaries mode...I was wondering why they would only give you two minutes. It's a tad bit confusing to someone like myself who hasn't played it before, but that is more my fault I suppose since all I have to do is Google what to do properly to play.

It was a bit funny to see a giant snake bite Piers the entire time while I tried to knife it to death. I couldn't imagine fighting Wesker though as he is ridiculously fast- must have been just as challenging, if not more.

I've only gone through half of CR's campaign and I'm thoroughly impressed with the amount of content this game has. Plus, there is actual replay value here. I thought I could beat it in 2 days, that is most likely not going to happen. This is the first game I've Redboxed that I actually want to pick-up too.

Edit: And running and shooting simultaneously? That is awesome in an RE game. Don't care what anybody says, that feature was necessary.

Not arguing with you, but pausing online can't happen, because it's persistent. Demon's/Dark Souls are persistent online games, and you can't pause them either. I know it sucks, but it's part of being online.

Athlon4591d ago

Thanks for your view on it. I might give it a try then. Just waiting on any weekend deals that might be coming up soon.

I picked it up today and have been playing it for a few hours now, I'm enjoying it, yes it has a few issues like the camera etc but I think it's good. But then I don't tend to listen to reviews much I play what I want and make my own mind up

crimsonfox4591d ago

How needs reviews! haha I said I was enjoying the game yesterday and lost 2 bubbles...ain't that some s**t

coolman2294591d ago

That's messed up. I don't like RE6 a whole lot, but I can appreciate people who can enjoy it.

LiquidSword934591d ago

Crimsonfox, you were almost trolling in other articles abt how good re6 is when everyone knows how much of a f***ing joke it is. You deserved what you got. Just say you like it, don't be long winded and annoy ppl.

Oh….wow, RE6 huh….urm, cool, just what we always wanted.

EW
NOOOOOOOOOO
In what mind make sense to do this with the worse game on the series 🤦🏿

DivineHand125101d ago

I loved Resident Evil 4 back in the day and enjoyed Resident Evil 5 even though I had to do co-op to beat the final boss. Shiva was just too dumb.

Resident Evil 6 on the other hand, was so bad that I stopped playing after an hour in the game. That was before I even played any high-quality single-player games outside of Mass Effect, Portal, and Skyrim. I can't imagine playing RE6 now.

Chances are their next remake will be 5.

Profchaos101d ago

I just don't get why it's already on the platforms via BC unless it's a remake which would piss everyone off as fans are hoping for either the original game or code veronica to get the remake treatment

CrimsonWing69101d ago

Isn’t it already backwards compatible?
