Army of Two interview by CVG - It's nothing like Gears of War

CVG were almost afraid to mention Gears of War through fear of being thrown through a giant window from the top floor of EA's plush Chertsey office. But CVG did and everything was okay.

EA Montreal's Matt Turner, assistant producer on Army of Two, was a nice bloke and didn't try even once to punch CVG when they mentioned Epic's 360 shooter and the obvious similarities.

Army of Two was planned for a 2007 release, but was delayed to allow for some extra polish. Now it's just about done and is set for a March release. Perfect time to catch up Turner for a chat. And how it'll sit alongside Epic's creation.

Im happy to hear this, this should be a standard for all PS3 online games...

that is the only problem...its all entirely up to developers right now...its not the leat bit unified...but seemingly would be very easy to 'unify' if Sony would get their shat together and just do it already...

The PSN has its own message service...like XBL...this is still enabled during games...you just can't access it...you can see that you recieved a message, so the service is running while you are gaming...but you have no way to get into to your inbox to read anything or reply without quitting the game...

but it also seemingly has its own invite and join system as well...with certain games, R6 Vegas, and Tekken 5 DR for example, you recieve a 'cross game invite' to your PSN account in the XMB...you can accept a game invite from T5, and it will automatically launch the game from the XMB and have you joing their lobby...Vegas does something similar, but it never launches the game automatically...it just say "you have been invited by so and so"...but accept/deny/reply are all greyed out...you can launch vegas, and see the invite in its own window in game also...but it has nothing to do with the XMB at that point...

it is so annoying...Warhawk has no messaging service at all right now...yet Resistance...a launch title mind you...had every single feature of every great multiplayer game...it was just all built into the game itself (in the beginning, you had to have XMB friends and Resistance friends...your friends list in Resistance had nothing to do with the XMB list...but I think they changed that over the summer)...

CoD 4 is a nightmare on the PS3 right now...I have 10 friends regularly inviting me to their game...yet am already in a party with 5 others laying waste in Team Deathmatch...Not sure if the other guys think I am just ignoring them...it would be nice to bring up a message box, key it to all my friends..and say "i'll join you later" or something...and feck quitting and sending a message...its hard enough to get the party going in the first place...

so yeah...its possible to have all that very soon on the PSN...why Sony didn't include it in the first place is nearly unacceptable...its the one thing keeping the PSN from 100% matching XBL feature wise...and yet Sony has been tight lipped about it, and apparently kept it on the back burner as well...we have recieved countless features that are all way less important than this...when it finally does happen, they will have totally matched their competition...yet with no charge...why that isn't top priority is absolutely beyond me...

its the one area that Sony has major problems...they definitely have a habit of announcing things to early...most of us would patiently wait for features like this, had Sony said "it will not launch with this feature"...instead they show it running on stage, with all the ingame everything you would ever need...and leave it at that, leaving us to believe it would all be there from the beginning...Same with Home...they announce all this stuff last year...say it will be ready in months, with all kinds of crazy features...yet countless interviews with even 1st party developers when asked about features of Home it was "uh...well...we haven't recieved a lot of information on that yet"...whatever...just get his stuff done, or stop talking about it...
