The Game Has Changed: The Force Unleashed

This summer, Xbox and PlayStation junkies will get to feel as if they've gone inside a Star Wars movie, one that in some ways has a mind of its own. As the author discovers firsthand, video games are entering a whole new universe.

Notes: This is a "making of", behind-the-scene coverage of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

I REALLY hope they iron out the framerate issues this game has.

I would think the PS3 version would fare a little better because of the intense physics calculations going on.

Anyways, the game is impressive to say the least, and I hope it's polished as hell before its release.

Skerj6342d ago

For that to happen the game would have to be made from the ground up on the PS3 and they'd have to move the physics calculations to the SPES. Not sure if they've done either but so far it only seems like Sony 1st and 2nd parties do and Criterion.

Well, it would be a goddamned shame if they didn't use the SPUs. I believe Lucas Arts will...they're using some pretty advanced tech (DMM specifically, and how that interacts with the Physics engine) that I would say would REQUIRE them to use the PS3's capabilities.

I guaran-fukin-tee you that you couldn't get all that crap to run on the PS3's one PPC core.

No sir-ee.

power of Green 6342d ago

Maybe maybe not. Hell Most devs don't even use more than one core on the 360 hardware and rarely use more than 2 or 3 core to the fullest(1 core = 2 threads).

How is this game even possible on the wii?!? I thought Really good physics required a really good processor.

miasma6342d ago

They did mention that "Simpler versions of the game will be published for PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s Wii and DS platforms."

There would be sacrifices.

also: "Making The Force Unleashed a next-gen game meant a couple of things. For one, every time new consoles are introduced, game-makers essentially have to start a brand-new computer-code base that is compatible with the new hardware, and each console requires its own proprietary code. “It would be like, in the film business, if you had to stop and re-invent the camera, re-invent film, re-invent lighting, re-invent how you record audio, and re-invent the theatrical aspect of it."

That type of statement says to me they are willing to put the time in to getting the best they can out of each respective console (no matter how current), and write to each.

Nice vid. Game is looking better and better.

"I guaran-fukin-tee you that you couldn't get all that crap to run on the PS3's one PPC core. "

huh?

Not very excited by this, EVERY Star Wars game to date has been pretty pants and i dont see this being any different.

Skerj6342d ago

What about KOTOR 1 and 2, Jedi Knight II, and Jedi Academy? I can't stand Star Wars itself but I must admit those games rocked.

mighty_douche6342d ago

i know the games you listed are very popular, but just not with me (dont hate me), im not gonna bash people for enjoying whay they like, no sir, but i just cant see this game being in the same league as many ther titles releasing over the next few months.

Skerj6342d ago

No use in hating you for stating your opinion. Usually it's right, the vast majority of Star Wars games are crap, only selling on that license alone. For someone who abhors Star Wars I found the games I listed entertaining. This one has potential, I'm thinking it's going to play like Second Sight/PsyOps on steroids. If that is truly the case then it's going to be awesome.

force unleashed is a great game. Thankfully the 360 version is bc on the XBO/Series. It looks and plays even better than on original hardware.

I am not a Star Wars fan but I enjoyed the Force Unleashed and the sequel. Shadows of the Empire was another Star Wars game I also enjoyed.

RpgSama720d ago

I had Shadows of the Empire on N64 and I used to finish that game basically weekly. LOVED that game.
