Warner Bros Shuts Down Fan Made Skyrim: Lord Of The Rings Mod

Cinemablend "Do you like Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings? Do you like Edler Scrolls V: Skyrim? Do you think you would have drooled over the possibility of playing a total conversion mod of The Lord of the Rings in Skyrim? Well, if you answered yes to all of those then you have some petitioning to do, my friend."

Well that sucks the big one. Always the same fans make something great and big publishers shut it down so fast it makes your head spin like the streets of rage fan game and ofc the 3d chrono trigger remake.

SilentNegotiator4646d ago (Edited 4646d ago )

If the creators of these mods cared about the game more than the publicity, they could say nothing until they release it and it ends up on a million share and pirate sites.

Not that I blame them for WANTING publicity. But the end result of making a high profile mod or game of a big name IP is predictable.

raiden-494646d ago

Well they bring it out so we can try it then that helps the modder know what to fix and to evolve.

Conzul4646d ago

LoL, don't the idiots know - mods can help sell a product, especially in the world of PC gaming. They extend the life of some games to unbelievable spans ( freelancer, quake, etc)

SilentNegotiator4646d ago

What good would that do Warner Bros? THEY're the ones shutting down the mod so that people don't have an alternative to the crappy games they commissioned.

vortis4645d ago

While I agree with SilentNegotiator since Warner Bros wouldn't earn anything from this, I do think that Warner Bros should have let it ride...it only would have brought more interest to the LOTR brand and in turn, it could have helped them sell crappy products.

Microsoft, Hammerpoint, Ubisoft and I'm pretty sure Activision and EA already are eying ways to cash in on the DayZ craze with their ripoff clones. Warner Bros needs to learn a bit about the mod scene.

kostchtchie_4646d ago (Edited 4646d ago )

maybe i should patent trees, grass, cloths and get Warner bros to close its studio as i never gave them permission to copy trees or grass or anything else on this planet that gives them inspiration in creative style..

i can understand if they were trying make money of lord of the rings, but a mod? please how pathetic..

MS could compress their games on disc

raWfodog18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

jznrpg8d ago

Morrowind is by far my favorite. But I’m getting old and played Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion before Skyrim

ActualWhiteMan18d ago

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher47d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast46d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

jznrpg46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic46d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee46d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator46d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast46d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
