Rationalizing Metroid: Other M

GenGAME writes: "...the characterization of Samus was poorly done and she did seem to come out of it much weaker with the reason being simply because she was female. However, it doesn’t change my mind about her being a badass, and it certainly doesn’t reflect too poorly on her, given the circumstances... What it does do is humanize someone we always looked at as an unshakeable killing machine, and that’s what people are really upset about with Other M."

This should have been on the WiiU tab also-

Insightful read.

I think you are right about most of your hypothesis. I don't want to go completely back to the silent Samus, I would rather someone just build on the character.

-If they could get a writer I would prefer a Joss Whedon cause Samus is kind of a Buffy/River Song (see "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" & "Firefly"/"Sere nity") mix.

I really want the series to go beyond Metroids and go in a Dues Ex/Prey 2/Splinter Cell/GTA direction.

I want to see Samus going through living alien cities (like GTA or WatchDog) and seeing Samus morph ball into a Skyscraper's ventilation system on her way to get one of many Bounties scattered through out the city.
She could hack (MP2 multiplayer) or shoot her way through the building.

And in between assignments you can get to know her through civilians characters and military. Or roaming through her base of operations...

And I think she should have all of the powers that she had in all of the Primes at start. But they should make the targets extremely hard to get to and the puzzles hard to get to him hard to solve making you guess on what tool/power in your possession you have to use.

PS
I like Zero Suit more than the Bikini wearing Samus. Since Samus was in the military she should be trained in mele fighting. Zero Suit allows us to see that the woman is powerful without the suit. (Zero Suit was chosen mostly to add more female characters to Smash Brothers).

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds893d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3894d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese894d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits893d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

Well it almost killed Metroid so…

PhillyDillyDee1139d ago

Yeah we all loved how you took a stoic badass and turned her into a whiny shrew. All those writers should be sacked.

H91139d ago

I mean it was a killer

Sometimes, I doubt that Reggie was that great for Nintendo after all.

2D Metroid Retrospective: Bring on the Remakes

VGChartz's Paul Broussard: "The early-mid 2000s saw something of a golden age for Metroid games. After an eight year hiatus, Metroid burst back onto the scene in dramatic fashion. Largely buoyed by the critical and financial success of Metroid Prime (at least, relative to other Metroid releases), Metroid saw a whopping six new titles between 2002 and 2007, as well as one rather bizarre pinball spin-off that wound up being much better than it had any right to be. Metroid had never been this popular before."

Never though the day would come where I say this but I’d be fine with having every 2D Metroid remade the way Dread plays.

INMATEofARKHAM1358d ago

I just want them all in the Switch.
