Doesn’t it feel absolutely awesome to beat the crap out of someone? Not in real life of course, but the legal way; through boxing, kung fu, mixed martial arts, and of course video games. Yes, gaming shall be categorized here. It’s the bragging rights that makes the fight worth it when all is said and done.
The primary focus here is MMA for gamers, but at the fraction of the cost of UFC Undisputed or EA Sports’ previous title “MMA.” Kung Fu Factory has released its latest ass-kicker, Bellator MMA Onslaught. With the title going straight to XBLA and PSN with a $14.99 price point, the only question at hand is what can Onslaught deliver to MMA fans?
Glitch Cat - In the end, 345 Games’ Bellator: MMA Onslaught is a terrible representation of the sport it’s modeled after. Despite having flashy moves and easy to learn controls, everything else is pretty bad. From the horrible presentation and masher-friendly gameplay to the lack of the fun modes and fighters, Bellator: MMA Onslaught is one of the worst MMA games out there. Avoid it at all costs.
GIZORAMA - If you played Supremacy MMA, Kung Fu Factory might have made your developer blacklist. Our very own review was damning of the game but do not run away quite yet when we tell you that Kung Fu Factory has released another MMA title. Developed as a downloadable title for major systems and to coincide with the airing of Bellator Fighting Championships on Spike TV, Bellator MMA Onslaught is quite a different beast than Supremacy. While Bellator MMA is no UFC Unleashed, much like Bellator Fighting Championships is no UFC, it is not utter garbage like Supremacy and can be a fun game to play.
DHGF: I can’t see this as appealing to Bellator fans or MMA fans in general. Nearly every aspect of the game feels unfinished or unbalanced. You can buy UFC Undisputed 2009 for less than this game, and even though it came out years ago it has a larger roster, a better fighting system, more modes, and is just more fun to play. Bellator: MMA Onslaught may be the worst MMA game I’ve ever played, and that includes the older UFC games on the Dreamcast and Playstation.
