how informed the general public is about this technology. For example when a friend of mine heard that HD DVD was about to lose the format war he flipped because he thought it made his HDTV obsolete not realizing that HD DVD was a disc format. So there is one example of general confusion about products and formats and how they relate to one another. So god only knows who these people are that participated in the survey and how much they know about this tech.

Well much as I dispute the figure, in the UK, Dixons is the largest high street retail electrical store. The kind of place where you go to buy your electronics if you don't really know much about electronics... :)

Which is what makes the figure somewht irrelvant..but none the less, in the UK, people know and understand what Dixons is about.

people just won't quit with this. Seriously if you poll people on an electronics supplier site, what kind of customer would even respond to this? Yes they would be electronics enthusiasts, but I highly doubt that ALL of the people who replied to poll knows all about the functions, technology, and movies available for both HD-DVD and Blu Ray.

For example... I was in a best buy the other day and I heard an inquiring customer asking a sales Associate, "which one do you think would be a better value, HD DVD or Blu Ray?". The Sales Associate responded (and this is word for word) "HD DVD because its cheaper and there are more movies" ... I bit my tongue Knowing that he was telling this to a customer DAYS after Warner switched over to the BD camp and HD DVD was unofficially declared dead, and knowing that Blu Ray has the majority of movie titles in their selection... I was just perplexed that someone who was supposed to be an electronics expert would steer a buyer into the wrong direction unless he was trying to create future sales if the HD DVD product becomes discontinued.

So all in all, my point is a poll such as the one being brought in front of us should not be taken seriously because I guaran - damn - tee
people don't even know what is going on and they relate HD DVD due to the simple fact that people are already equated to the product known as DVD. I bet if all those people knew that there are many more titles on blu ray, the 47 percent number would be significantly lower as it is in Japan since they are are more technologically aware than most.

I own both with having the drive for my 360 and also owning the PS3.
I prefer the blu ray because its quiet compared to having the 360 on and I know others that agree.

I'd say that in the UK people don't really understand the formats as much and don't want to yet because of the price. When we're expected to pay £25/$50 per disc, then others are going to sit it out and wait for them to drop.
The HD market is kind of killing itself in the UK because as per usual we get ripped off. There isnt much on HD being pushed over here too so noones bothered to be honest. Plus all most of them will hear is DVD in the title and relate to it, half won't even know what blu ray is.

Me? I only buy HD now. Not a single DVD movie has been purchased for about a year.

Well, I will be honest here and say that even though I have watched both HD DVD and Blu Ray, I can't really tell much difference between them and normal DVD's.

My husband disagrees with me completely, and says that he can certainly see a difference ...... but I can't really

Is it really useful to have two formats on one disc especially when one is trying to replace the other? (i.e. HD DVD replacing DVD)... seriously why pay more just to have DVD on the same disc as HD DVD... kind of defeats the purpose, huh?
