Supreme Commander: GameSpot's hands-on with the Xbox 360 version

Porting one of the most popular and complex real-time strategy games of recent years, Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander, over from its native PC onto the Xbox 360 is an unenviable task for the folks at Hellbent Games. After all, games as richly nuanced and deep as SupCom, as it's come to be affectionately known, can only be done on the PC, right? Well, not so fast. As GameSpot discovered during a recent hands-on session with the game, Hellbent has been working to ensure that SupCom for the Xbox 360 is a faithful adaptation of the PC game and, perhaps more importantly, that the game's inherent complexity is mitigated by a useful and easy-to-use control scheme.

I know its a low res video - but the graphics in this conversion look terrible, and it looks like they dropped the level of deatil on the models way down..but despite this there appears to be really chugging framerates - just check out that explosion near the end of the interview to see fps hit single figures.

I hope they manage to optimise and improve things before release as I'd like to try this on the 360...

The had to cut down; that was predictable.
You can't compare the PC to a console.
As much as xbox 360 haters would like to believe otherwise the cell nor the blu-ray will be able to overcome the PS3 and xbox 360 Memory difference between the PC and these consoles.
I mean, seriously isn't common sense that having 100GB of disc space does not mean you can load it into memory when you have a limitation of 512MB (not counting OS and other console resources already taking like 15-20% for other things)?
These kind of games requrire the entire map, unit, textures, scripts to be loaded into memory... look at the PC specs required to play this game on the PC:

3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better
• 1 GB RAM or better
• 256 MB video RAM,
with DirectX 9 Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support (Nvidia 6800 or better)

Now tell me; how the hell can developers bring this games to consoles when the PC uses 3X more memory without having to cut down some textures? I'm just glad they didn't cut down the gameplay, units, etc.
They cut down some maps and textures in order to be able to run the game. This I was expecting. The same would have happen with the PS3... this is a memory issue and both consoles have this limitation compared to the PC.

It's a lot easier and doable to port a game between the xbox 360 and the PS3 than it's to port a PC game to the consoles specially if developers used the PC as the primary development environment... there is no way the game can stay the same... how many computers do you know with just 512MB of ram?

Just look at Gears of war. Or mass effect. Or killzone 2. Or uncharted. Or virtua fighter 5. They all have graphics that suck, rite? Im bein sarcastic. Btw
