"So this day finally came. About 15 hours ago, a box came in. That box contained 2 disc boxes, both marked "Devil May Cry 4?. One was for the Xbox 360, and the other for PlayStation 3.
Just like no one cares about a game that is gimped to run on the Xbox 360's smaller than last gen 7gig DVD discs, no standard harddrive, and wimpy graphics hardware.
When DMC was released on the PS2 years ago it looked and played like a real next gen game because it wasn't gimped to run on the Dreamcast.
Capcom's once great reputation is ruined until they can demonstrate they can make a real next gen game and not more last gen looking crap based off their tired old Lost Planet engine.
Cerulean is wrong, actually. The DC was much more powerful than the PS2. Oh, and the 360 has a stronger GPU. The PS3 is still much, much stronger when using the Cell and RSX together, and correctly. Also, this game wasn't entirely downgraded, just ported to 360. I am Anti-Microsoft, but unlike you, I'm not an idiot.
@below
I'm pretty sure the DC is better than the PS2. I mean look at the differences in graphics. Sonic Adventure looks a helluva lot better than almost all PS2 games I've played. I think the only thing more advanced in the PS2 was the disk drive.
@ PoG. The dreamcast was more powerful than the ps2? Uuum...you don't really believe that do you?
Maybe I'm wrong but aren't the ps2 specs better than DC's?
Hm, I don't think that the DC is more powerful then the PS2. Both use a ~200MHz cpu. While this is an SH4 (a 32bit RISC cpu) in the DC Sony used an extended MIPS core with 128 bit register extensions (actually at 294MHz), +2 vector cores, one attached to the CPU, the other as a copro closer to the GS. The GS is attached to the CPU thru a 2560 bit bus. That's where the PS2 gets its bandwidth from. On the other hand, the DC runs a PowerVR arcade chip. The PowerVR chip has its advantages, especially in its ability to do tiled based rendering. The DC had 16MB main mem, 4MB video and 2 for sound and supported HW texture compression (BTW: I am still looking for a Dreamcast which can run linux and a network adapter. I can't get mine to boot that linux image - anyone ?). The PS2 uses 32MB RDRAM (rambus) memory with a bandwidth of about 3.2GB/sec (which is still high, even today). The GS has its own 4MB eDRAM framebuffer with internal bandwidth of about 38GB/s (!). PS2 uses a 24xCD/4xDVD drive, DC a GDROM (basically a CD ROM which can store 1GB data).
So, I don't know, I'd say the PS2 is pretty much ahead of it.
The DC can run linux? How? Are you talking about on a live cd or something? I have my DC still, but I had to take the lid off because it would make the disk stop spinning (for some reason) but anyways enlighten me on this linux with DC! :D First Ubuntu Linux on my PC and PS3. To have it on the DC would be great.
Oh, and just out of plain curiosity. Are the PSO servers still up?(For DC) I heard something not too long ago that someone made their own server for it since they couldn't get off the game(I don't blame them).
There's no live or distro available. Probably a bootable CD image somewhere. But its more directed to people who who want to play around with a small embedded linux box. Someone even made it a router. To boot that image you need to scramble and what not and AFAIS you need a specific version to boot it. I think needs to be an NTSC version (mine is a PAL, should try to get one fro ebay). I am pretty sure I did everything right, (compiled the kernel, built the ISO, scrambled it, etc) but I couldn't get it to boot yet.
(oops, that was so offtopic, but I thought some might be interested).
"Devil May Cry 4 is just ment to be played on the PlayStation 3. It just feels… dunno - more comfortable, more responsive?".........
.......
.....Sounds good......

..."The JOEY has Spoken"
He sure did. Bookmark this page for future reference.
According to POG Halo isn't that good a shooter. Xbots just dont know any better.
Forza isn't a good racer. They just dont know any better.
Dont worry I wont attack titles that are actually good games and if you dont like it, hey, talk to your leader.
PS, I own all the consoles and play them too (well, I dont play Wii) so I know better than you POG, and dont tell me you have a PS3 because you wouldn't keep one in your house if you won it free.
"Speaking of versions. I confess - initially I tried to play it on my 360, as I just kinda fell in love with the controller. Although when I actually started playing, it didn’t feel right. Ever got that weird feeling that something is WRONG? It wasn’t the framerate, it wasn’t the HDTV - it was the controller. Devil May Cry 4 is just ment to be played on the PlayStation 3. It just feels… dunno - more comfortable, more responsive?"
"Furthermore, it is now clear that the game was initially developed for the PS3 and then ported to the 360. Occasional frame-rate issues are to blame. Loading times are also _a bit_ faster on the PS3."
Developers are finally getting the point that starting the games on the PS3 is where to begin. Furthermore I think they are realizing that the PS brand will step up and beyond the competition like they always do and start producing games with the PS3 in favor.
Devil May Cry has always been a Sony exclusive. Why all of a sudden has it been ported to the 360? Did you ever think of that?
DMC 4 actually started life as a PS3 exclusive. The reason it jumped to the 360 is because CAPCOM is unsure of the PS3 success so far, not because CAPCOM has had some sort of epiphany about Sony conquering the competition.
Funny how PS3 fanboys try to take anything they can find and put spins on them. Despite the fact that this is a port, I'll still enjoy the hell out of it.
And oh yeah...we get Ninja Gaiden 2...you won't even be getting a port of that...EVER!
I love the last sentence. Didn't 1up come out and call the 360 version a mess with framerate issues a month ago? So much for just ports from 360 to the PS3 ending up creating an inferior product, eh? I think the media has sided with Burnout to look better on PS3 as well, if ever so slightly, still better.
I thought that was from a build not as current as the final the PS3 version was ahead of the 360 version for obvious reasons(started development first).
Screen tears and frame rate drops, and longer load times didn't get ironed out for the 360... and this is from the review code of the final game build so with that being said again the 360 version is what you call a takced on port, just trying to cash in on the xbox fans that want to play DMC... and as many are saying, The PS3 version is well you guessed it the version to own...
Its the most powerful SO it should be used to DEV all games that are multi platform. They will make more money in the long run even if it costs slightly more. both platforms run the game identically ie: Call of Duty 4
That would give him a mighty small p*nis dont you think? Anyway aside from that.. the videos for this game look good. I hope dantes weapons are back for this one. I personally loved the Cerburus... and the gauntlets (i forget the name) that allow you do kick and punch combos.
Might actually pick this one up after the reviews start rolling in.
I was going to get the Collectors Edition until I realize that paying extra 20 bucks for LESS than the usual Collectors Edition was not worth it...sorry Capcom
yeah I remember that forum thread were they revealed that there was going to be a Collectors Edition and there wa a picture of a box with both replica guns so like me SH!T load of people thought it came with the guns and is why it was 80 bucks, sadly we were mistaken, but like ThaGeNeCySt said it would have been complicated for the shipping with the whole X ray thing (I worked on the airport and we would have freaked out seeing that on the X ray) and just see what happened with Masterpiece Megatron that transformed into a replica gun, some places forced the seller to glue a orange peg other simply refused to sell it to the US (but you can still buy it :P) still Capcom could at least put some key chains of the guns XD
Can't remember what game it was (it wasn't too long ago... maybe Persona 3?) that came with a gun replica, but I think it was a present to the press only
@Charlie2688
I didn't even know that. Knowing it was an actual possibility only makes me sad now
"I’ve been playing it on a 42″ 1080p, and seriously, this IS the game you want to an HDTV for." Is it true is DMC running at 1080p I thought I heard it was running at 720p from somewhere. I wonder is this game as hard as he says it is because I played the original(not the easier special edition) DMC3 on the hardest difficulty and that was "B!TCH HARD". Assuming that he played it on the default difficulty than i could only assume that the harder difficulties would be the hardest in all of DMC.
God is feel good to be a PS3 owner......Like I have said by the end of the year everyone that has talk Trash about the PS3 will be eating their words...I have not played my 360 since christmas eve 2007..... I am still waiting for a great reason to be pulled from my PS3...
well the difficulty supposed to be easier than DM3, but it looks like his graph follows the same arc as DM3. I want this game, but I got so pissed playing DM3 since it was so f'n hard....<the boss the inside the belly and tentacles.....I quit at that point>...
I don't like playing on "easy" <difficulty setting> cause its TO easy....oh well \end rant
the game doesn't LOOK next gen to me. especially in that youtube vid they posted in the middle of the review. i'll wait to play it myself to pass judgment, but that'll be march when i go home for spring break... :-(
its good to see that its a difficult game. and i can't wait to see which major publication docks off points for it being too hard. and i laughed at the photoshop image in the review as well. its good to see some humor injected into reviews.
and i would expect the ps3 version to load faster. it BETTER load faster with the mandatory 5gb hdd install. its also kind of disappointing that the 360 version is gimped, because i'm pretty sure the devs said that the versions were completely equal.
on a side note, i'm a sucker for the romance stuff. so chances are i'll get the game :-)
also, i'm hoping they include the option for a japanese voice over. because i can't stand nero's voice yelling Kyrie!! kyrie!! over and over again.
oh, and am i the only one who thinks the story is going to be incredibly predictable?
There are no Japanese VA. It was all done in English. And I wouldn't call a few frame rate drops and slightly longer loading times gimped. I'd call incredibly longer loading times and sporadic frame rate gimped *cough* Orange Box *cough*. This just goes to show just how awesome PS3 to 360 porting is.
I wish I didnt read that. I learned something that I didnt want to know till I played the game nooo.
Aside from that, I've seen alot of comparisons and saw no difference. Some of which I saw the 360 had better picture sharpness. And I heard both PS3 and 360 were ports from the PC. Ahh well I guess it doesnt matter, after all its just one guy opinion.
Here a comparison video.
yeah im already used to ps3 controls so im going to get that one and from the review it looks like its not a half assed multiplat like so many u see today win-win situation for all gamers
(except wii -no offence)
I too am used to the Playstation controls having played all DMC.
But I'm gonna try the 360 version out and see what's it like. It will probably take some time getting used too. ( controls )
other then that its pretty much the same. Well that and achievements.
Their gonna be able to implant that, even though DMC 4 will be out before home? If so that is pretty neat. But I gotta get my gamer score up lol.
Makes the game just a little bit more interesting to me.
yup there doing the same for uncharted warhalk resistance ect.
(even lair- might make the game a little easier to swallow if it has a huge dragon as a trophy lol)
lol thats cool, I'll look forward to that trophy system when they get it up and running. I wonder if XBL will try to imprint a trophy system.?
It certainly is a good idea.
Lol... Zhuk-ie, Zhuk-ie, Zhuk-ie - yeah i think they include a brain in the 360 version. So it should suit you. Its apparently also a gimped version so that should also suit you.
I'll be getting the 360 version - as I do not yet have a PS3, but I'm sure it will control fine - Ninja Gaiden on the 'Box worked great...but I'm sure I'll have a PS3 by the time God of War 3 comes out!
Anyway, I'm so glad this game turned out well - sometimes highly anticipated games fall short.
the ps3 loading faster bc if never does and half games these days it's ps3 having frame rate issues but anyhow i've seen the gameplay comparison and the games look the same no difference what so ever
ps3 version loads faster and has less framerate problems because it was the head platform (made for ps3 ported to 360) and also with the ps3 ur able to download content from the game directly to the hard drive microsoft didnt allow this for the 360 because of 360 core owners being left out the games u r thinking of were developed for 360 and ported to the ps3. just thought this would help u picture it =P
PS3 gets a better version again? Where's your head at? And its a wonder you only have one bubble.
JVIDICAN: yeah i know about the PS3 being able to download the game to the hard drive. But who would even wanna really do that just to decrease loading times?
I know I wouldn't, its a waste. My UT3 I could of did it, but didn't I think its a waste for my hard drive space.
And wasn't A.C. developed for the PS3 first too. I got the PS3 version and it was in real bad shape had alot of glitches. Heard the 360 had far less problems. Thats one of the reasons why I try to stick to 360 multi platform games.
And I'm not getting ignorant or anything, ur okay in my book.
But thats just my opinion on the subject.
Anyways I'm gonna download both demos when they come out. On XBL and PSN and see for myself.
"And I finally beat it. Guess which one?"
No one cares.
Just like no one cares about a game that is gimped to run on the Xbox 360's smaller than last gen 7gig DVD discs, no standard harddrive, and wimpy graphics hardware.

bioshock. 2 of the best games this gen. IMO 3rd and 4th best game this gen right behind bioshock, and smg
