Nier has a ton of brilliant ideas. In a few places, and always without warning, the game shift perspectives and camera angles. While traveling through the world, you will come across an old mansion on the hill. At this point, the camera stops following you and goes to a fixed position waiting for you to move around and then you say to yourself, “when did this become Resident Evil?” In another part of the game, you move across platforms like you would in a 2d side scroller. There is also a choose your adventure section, some rail shooting elements, and other out of place things that feel thrown in for no other reason than the designer was bored.

There wasn't that many. Thanks to the west's criticism. It was definitely lacking compared to every other ps system. Dont get me wrong there were a few good ones i know that.
Only gripe I have with Ar Tonelico 3 is that Saki is annoying as hell whether English or in Japanese. Then Saki's English voice actor became Ionasal on Ar Nosurge she was a little annoying but not as bad. Johnny Young Bosch voicing Tatsumi I thought he did a great job. And Akiko Shikata with her vocals and the music from the games just went hand and hand.
Nier and Drakengard are two series that couldn't be more different in their setting and stories, but somehow they are still linked.
Whether intended or not, NieR makes a strong case that good gameplay is not everything, especially if a game has larger goals in mind.
i mean ... it depends right. when i think about drakengard 1s combat .. damn. its god awful. the game is great but its very charring to get through because of it.
good combat helps a game tremendously
this is one of my favourite games this gen and i really do need to give it a second playthrough at some point soon
Maybe the designer was bored, but I liked that different parts of the game played differently. I loved how that one place in the forest was a text adventure, for example. The way things continually changed kept it fresh.
And I loved the story and characters. The music is amazing, too.
... how do you call the game mediocre, give it a better than mediocre score, and praise virtually everything? I don't get it.
