Coming in to this play through of RFoM, I was very firmiliar with this game. I purchased my first PS3 for $750 (Please, dont go there) in December of '06. The two games I bought along with it were Madden 07 and Resistance. Given I didn't have internet, it was campaign only for me. I ended up completing it nine times throughout the next year. This is my first complete play through since late '07.
The Beginning: Resistance opens up with a cut-scene explaining the spreading of the Chimeran takeover and Nathan Hales story. It's said the events your playing take place between July 11th throught the 14th of 1951.
The Gameplay: I consider the gameplay very unique. Such as the health system. You have four bars of health, if you get injured, and one bar doesn't fully dissipate, it will regenerate. You can reassign buttons to any designated feature. An example is switching the secondary fire to the zoom button. An interesting lack of a feature was the sprint button. Although it really didn't feel needed, it was odd. The worst thing I encountered in my play through was the placing of the checkpoints. You might get two or three per level. I found myself quit more than once because of this. As for the movements; you really feel like you have control of your player. In games like Killzone 3, it sometimes feels like you don't have full control. The controls in the PS3's launch title are crisp and refreshing.
The Graphics: The Graphics in Resistance aren't that far off from today. It looked extremely good for its time, and damn good today. The scenary is what sticks out to me. From the Chimeran towers, to driving through the city in a Bradley; it's beautiful.
The enemies also have great detail. From the Hybrids to the Leapers; you see the effort put in to these beings.
The Sound: The music they used fits the title perfectly. It has a dramatic feeling, and you know when somethings going to happen. Real high pitched tunes to shock you, and more rugged music when you have to battle bigger enemies. A few times the dialouge skips, but it's nothing major. The firing of the diverse weapons in Resistance sounds very authentic.
The Miscellaneous: One thing that I really liked were the peices of Intel scattered throughout the game. They were always in great detail. If you take the time to read them, you learn more about the story. The concept art was an enjoyable feature. To anyone who likes concept art, you'll love it. You get to see a few things that didn't make it, which is always cool. The weapons in Resistance, are by far the best weapons in any game I have played. The creativity is wonderfully displayed in the guns. My personal favorite was the Hailstorm.
There it is, my thoughts on the PS3's launch FPS. In my opinion, the best on the console to date. It did everything right, and more. The effort and detail is like no other this gen. Every single morsule of this game is excellent. Resistance: Fall of Man, is an excellent example of gaming art.
Sony is in the middle of an FPS crisis, but bringing back two much-loved PlayStation shooters could easily be the solution.
I honestly don't think we'll be seeing these anytime soon, if ever. Insomniac is officially on Marvel duty since it seems that all they're working on based off the leaks, and Horizon is more of what the casuals want these days. And I now I'll get a bunch of disagrees, but keep in mind that Resistance last got a game on the PS3 (2011) and Killzone was a launch title for the PS4 (2013). 10 years is a long time to make a game, if had any interest they would've done it by now, add InFamous to that list.
Resistance 3 turned me off to the series but I’d love a reboot. KillZone I think can stay dead. Give me a new Resistance like 1or 2 and I’ll be happy.
I honestly never cared or liked killzone. Huge resistance fan though. I remember so many nights playing melee only on USS Lexington, and I like the alt history vibe.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
While it's been on ice for as long as it was around, the Resistance franchise has no shortage of quality.
My take:
Single player
3, 2, 1
Multiplayer
3, 1, 2
Overall
3, 2, 1
I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.
Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.
*highfives*
Great game.
Loved the hell outta the game
I still play it when friends come over.
Co-op SP in R:FoM was amazing
If you ever have a group of friends over, try the offline MP.
Very addicting ^^
if you mean resistance 1:
i wouldn't give it more than a 6.5 / 10
because the game sucks
resistance 2 was alot beter 8/10
resistance 3 will be be 9.5/10 i gues ;)
I loved Resistance: Fall of Man. More so than any other online shooter. I'm a two times Supreme Commander, with over 600 hours logged online.
I loved the old school weapon spawns, the no perks or abilities. What made someone better was because they were genuinely better! The weapons were balanced, the clan and party system were also great.
Many people thought the gameplay was dated. But I think it made it unique. Hip fire and team work were key, no auto aim, and air strikes. I miss it so much... :(
On-line is great! It had virtually none of the problems we see in recent games.
I liked the ability to see a list of games in progress and jump into which-ever you wanted. This made getting together into organised events very easy.
I even took part in an in-game photo-shoot where we tried to get 40 players all together.... of course there was always 1 idiot who saw it as an opportunity for carnage, but still good fun. And the photos got sent to the offical playstation mag.
I played it again recently and it's still good, but it just feels slow now. I suppose it's the lack of a sprint button.
Story in R1 is sick. Way better than R2.
