Resistance 2 Over Rated?

Resistance 2 in my opinion was indeed over rated. I bought this game the day it came out, and finished it by the next day.

Single Player Campaign,

Compared to the first Resistance, this game felt way too scripted and linear. Visually there was not much improvement except for the character models. The presentation of the game was also nowhere near as good as the first Resistance. There wasn't much of a story there to emerse you into the game like there was in the first game.

Online Co-op,

The addition of online co-op was a great idea, but didn't meet my expectations. I've played online co-op in games such as:
-Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2(PS3)
-Rainbow Six Vegas(PS3)
-Rainbow Six Vegas 2(PS3)
-Call of Duty: World at War(PS3)
-SOCOM: Combined Assault(PS2)
-Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm(PS2)

Aside from the fact that R2's co-op has up to 8 players, it falls short of all of the above mentioned titles. I will admit that you must use a little bit of team work in order to beat the online co-op missions, but on the whole its just fragfest of endless grenades and heavy machine gun fire. Theres not much tactical gameplay involved. Its not so much of a campaign as it is a series of induvidual missions. Insomniac was being missleading when they said that there was going to be a 2nd full co-op campaign. The part I really didn't like is that if you are playing in a ranked room, after the mission is done, the room closes and then you must find another room to play a different mission. If you are in an unranked room, the room doesn't close after the mission is completed, but you are stuck playing the same mission over again.

Online Competative,

The competative mode is mediocre at best. Going by memory it only has 5 different game modes: Skirmish(60 players), Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and the last one is Control Points I belive. Compared to other online games on the market, this selection is very minimal. If you like games such as Call of Duty and Rainbow Six, then you might not like this style of FPS. There is not much in tactical gameplay here as its balls to the wall, all out jump around run and gun. Enemies can take alot of shots to kill, and in my opinion too many shots to kill. Especially if the guy you are trying to shoot is using a perk that allows him to take even more shots, which of course is redicilous. The visuals for the online component are not as good as the single player campaign, which isn't saying much.

Closing comments:

If you are new to FPS games, then you might have a blast with this game, but for seasoned FPS players who desire some tactical elements and well designed maps, this game might not be for you.

there's no denying Skirmish is an awesome online mode...

i disagree with you about the co-op, while it can get a bit clusterfvcky (so to speak)... it relies very heavily on teamwork and even a single sloppy player will cause a massive defect

i loved both of the online components, but campaign is dissapointing.. my biggest gripe is the removal of 2 player co-op in campaign... such a shame because the campaign in RFOM was excellent

I would consider myself quite the experienced FPS gamer, and I had a blast with Resistance 2.

I've been playing FPS for over a decade now, and I thought everything about this game was at least above average, with the online co-op and competitive being some of the best I've ever played.

I can agree, however, with the graphics and story opinions. Neither of them truly lived up to what I wanted. But still, I think its a high 8 or a low 9. B

But to each his own.

Co op a fragfest? GTFO.I've put almost 11 full days into co op alone.
It's no frag fest Hell,you barely even have grenades throughout the missions.It's one of the toughest more challenging co op games out their.

Mostly fair review imo.

I can't even bring myself to complete the single player campaign, i find it so boring.

However, i think the multiplayer is really well done, i always get a feeling of halo when i'm playing it, minus the floaty gameplay.

I'm with IGN on this game (again for the most part) when they say the multiplayer is brilliant.
