METROID Other M - Review 9.8

(((((Note to readers))))) I will not spoil much about the game, only want to mention some of the ENTICING things about Metroid Other 'M'.
I also hope that those who have never played or heard of this game to remember to be careful and to watch out for trailers of Other M as they carry with them what I believe to be HEAVY SPOILERS.

Now, on to my brief spoiler free review of Metroid Other "M" for the Nintendo Wii. Enjoy (:

I haven't been stuck/challenged by a video game in the longest time, not since i passed The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time for the N64 like 12 years ago. This time I got stuck in Metroid Other "M", I couldn't find my way. Alone in all these dark and INFESTED sectors. Very satisfying once I figured my way. I went up and down metallic hallways at >running< speeds, in and out of fast zipping doors, wall jumping in ninja fashions, up and down stair with re-spawning bugs that are a pleasure to blast as they disintegrate into blubber. A fun and pleasureful experience it is to get stuck in this game. And oh yea the game is played using ONLY the wiiMote (: No joysticks, just the D-pad and 2 more buttons! A thing to be witnessed and boy it if feels so darn RAD.

Quick note: In Metroid Other "M" when you turn on your console to continue playing, the game will quickly remind you of the last event that occurred the last time you played the game in the form of text. And it feels so good to be reminded of your past in-game accomplishments, dragging my brain back into the action before even starting the gameplay. <

Grapple-Swing and Plasma Blast your way through hoards of cool looking Insects and Arachnid Monsters like never before in this new Metroid game for the Nintendo Wii as the creatures spLat and burst into different colored guts and broken wings everywhere. If you see an attack coming, Samus can dodge danger, and its as easy as hitting the left side of the D pad, samus will jump out of the way just in time. You can really feel Samus's agility. You can also really feel the upgrades in this game as Samus gets stronger and stronger throughout the adventure like "this guy ain't that tough any more" type of upgrades and other things I WISH I COULD TALK ABOUT but no spoilers for you regarding any more ability GAINS (:

A lot of the time in this game you do HAVE to go from 2nd person into 1st person by aiming the Wiimote at the screen which is freaking rad and NEXT-GEN technology only possible on the Nintendo Wii! And when dealing with some foes and bosses, baddies can be blasted in any angle you please 1st person or Side Scroller < hohh . I personally like to exterminate insects in the 2D side scrolling mode, but whenever I get the chance to take out baddies in 1st person, it feels so good. The game goes into this slow motion style that lasts only 1 second when players switch from 2D into 1st person! A mechanic that must be experienced by all gamers non gamers.

The controls in Metroid Other "M" for the Nintendo Wii by no means are a "gimmick". The Wiimote motion gameplay mechanics are so godly and game-CHANGING that Other M should be experienced by everybody that has vision. Going from old school side scroller into 1st person view by simply aiming at the T.V., is FUN and awesome!. This is master game-play design here folks.

Metroid Other "M" is packed with easy to handle game-ALTERING mechanics! stuff never seen before in the history of gaming that make this Samus Aran game feel so next-gen new tech!

And also, very quickly, there is an item upgrade in Metroid Other M that I acquired a crucial item which I wont spoil that comes with NO instructions on how to use it. And in order to cross huge gaps and pits of death in the game, this crucial power-up can only be handled if players(become one with the upgrade). Such a highlight and reward once you nail it down. This upgrade takes patience and timing to master. Definitely an award winning touch by the designers here yes!

Now lets talk a bit about the Bosses in Metroid Other "M"

The Bosses in Metroid Other "M" will test your playing skills. The bosses are fun to fight not hard to defeat but yes very heart poundingly challenging. Such a good triumphant feeling of accomplishment once these monsters are sleighed. That's all I can say about the bosses without spoiling much. Be ready to show your skills.

The Flaws of Metroid Other "M"

Flaw number 1) (The Art) Some of the sections in the game look bad, unfinished not textured enough looking like N64. Some times you just want to go from 2D to 1st person in order to look around and see things and hidden passages you otherwise couldnt see in side scrolling mode. Unfortunately there are parts in the game thatlack polish. They could have put more time and effort into some sections. Most of the game looks rad though.

Flaw number 2) Another flaw I found in the game is how the story started getting a bit more sluggish and boring. Not enough to drag the game down a mountain on its face, but enough for me to feel a bit sorry for the voice acting of Metroid Other "M" and the yapping. But I will admit, when the cut-scenes started getting stale, It did pump me up for a chance to once again delve deep into the game and continue my adventure.

And finally Flaw number 3 in Metroid Other "M" is the poor sound quality that comes from the wiiMote. You see when you are saving the game, samus enters a light shelter that beeps and scans her body before saving the game. And coming from the wiimote as Samus is being scanned you can hear a unique digital chirping noise effect distinct from the noises on screed coming from the wiimote, and sadly, the sound quality is crap, and really disappointed me because the noise sounded so cool coming from the wiiMote, awesome touch. Such a neat sound effect that at 1st made me look around my room to see where that noise was coming from ha haa because I could tell it wasn't coming from the T.V. An amazing feature spoiled by poor quality. So bad that I had to hit the wii menu options just to lower the volume of the wiimote controller it was so bad. An awesome bi-focal effect poisoned by horrible speaker quality. The same thing when charging for missiles, the controller makes a noise when Samus is fully loaded, that effect too sounds horrid coming from the wiiMote. /:

Other than that, Metroid Other M is the work of KINGS. With more than 15+ hours of game, Other M is some serious stuff. A MUST buy for all Nintendo Wii owners and should be seen in action by all humans, gamers or not.

Get this game NOW.

Graphics = The Art style in Metroid Other "M" is nothing new, and at times it looks to be N64 powered = fail. But most of the time the game looks so good including the bosses the levels and the baddies.

Sound
Music = Apocalyptic . The music and compositions in Metroid Other "M" are the most chilling I have ever heard in the longest time, as a matter of fact you only hear these type of sounds in Catholic type Satan expelling movies.

I can't say I would have given Metroid Other M a near perfect score and quite so many 10's, given the fact that during my play through I found the game to be lacking in more than a few areas.

But then again it's all personal opinion, anyway hopefully the next Metroid game will be as good if not better.

This was probably one of the worst games I've played last gen. Definitely not on par with the Prime series or any Metroid.

The controls were gimmicky.
Samus is a mouse instead of a badass
Scanning....ugh
The d pad is terrible for moving around in a 3d environment.
Team Ninja was well on the road to falling off.

I'd say the bulk of my issue with this game is how they force the wii mote on you instead of the superior classic pro controller.

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds833d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Starman69833d ago

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3833d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese833d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits832d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

shinoff2183833d ago

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

Well it almost killed Metroid so…

PhillyDillyDee1078d ago

Yeah we all loved how you took a stoic badass and turned her into a whiny shrew. All those writers should be sacked.

H91078d ago

I mean it was a killer

Terry_B1078d ago

Sometimes, I doubt that Reggie was that great for Nintendo after all.

2D Metroid Retrospective: Bring on the Remakes

VGChartz's Paul Broussard: "The early-mid 2000s saw something of a golden age for Metroid games. After an eight year hiatus, Metroid burst back onto the scene in dramatic fashion. Largely buoyed by the critical and financial success of Metroid Prime (at least, relative to other Metroid releases), Metroid saw a whopping six new titles between 2002 and 2007, as well as one rather bizarre pinball spin-off that wound up being much better than it had any right to be. Metroid had never been this popular before."

Never though the day would come where I say this but I’d be fine with having every 2D Metroid remade the way Dread plays.

INMATEofARKHAM1297d ago

I just want them all in the Switch.
