Wuthering Waves is one of the best gacha games of today, and rightfully so. It is there on the top, fighting with the likes of Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero (and winning, by some accounts). The perfectly done animations and engaging combat are widely praised as the best parts of the game. However, other parts of the game are a point of discussion among fans, with some claiming that stuff like the story or optimization could use some improvements.
Player Lists Everything That Can Be Improved
One player, named SzoboEndoMacca on Reddit, gave a detailed review of what they like and dislike about Wuthering Waves. It all boils down to:
- Optimization
- Voice Acting and Music
- Story
- General Polish
They proceed to compare the game to its “rival” Hoyo game, Zenless Zone Zero, saying that the voice acting, music, and overall polish of the game are way better compared to WuWe. But, by far, the worst culprit is the story. “I was hoping WuWa’s story would’ve had a different take on it, but I feel like I’m having to pretend to care about something I never wanted to care for. The entire plot of having to fight Jué seemed unoriginal…” They also stated: “I want Kuro to LEAN AWAY from Hoyo’s style, and have more of their OWN identity. It’s only the polish of Hoyo games I want them to replicate.”
Most Players Are Not So Pessimistic About It
Naturally, some players agree with the OP, while others have completely different takes. User wanderingmemory agreed, saying: “I definitely feel like the story lacks depth. I’m still annoyed over being Deus Ex Machina’d at the end of 1.0 story after all the hype about how special we are…It’s also much harder for Wuwa to dig themselves out of a poorly written story because of the skip button (which is a positive overall). Because once players get a bad first impression, they will start skipping, and redemption is impossible if they won’t even give it a second chance.”
On the other hand, other players have no issues with optimization and FPS. “120 FPS is not (yet) supported on PC. I have a 3070 and no noticeable frame drops for me from a stable 60.” said dan_ez. Related to voice acting, SzepCs said: “The voice acting is very good, in Japanese at least.”
As for the story, some players claim that it leads to something more. “I disagree with the idea that the story pales in comparison, so far the story seems to be building towards something which will probably open up once we hit the black shores, I understand that the lack of character “drama” so far can feel boring for some people and that’s fine…” said trapp-.
Ultimately, it all comes down to personal tase. We can all agree that combat is incredible, but other aspects are all up for debate. “Different strokes for different folks, “ said Arcade_Wolf, at the beginning of their long reply. In the end, Microice001 said it best: “Let them cook, it’s only been 2 patches.” Patience is a virtue.
