Players new to either the Diablo series or dungeon crawlers, in general, might find themselves a little overwhelmed by all the features Diablo 4 throws at them. One such feature is the renown one.
Some players don’t know that the renown feature can be used to earn a bunch of rewards, not only for their character but for their entire account. Fortunately, we’ll be going through everything you need to know about renown in Diablo 4.
Diablo IV – What is Renown?
In Diablo IV, gathering Renown is a significant objective for players who are strongly motivated to do so, as it offers rewards not only for their current character but for their entire account. Moreover, Renown functions as a reputation system in the game, reflecting the extent to which the various factions acknowledge and appreciate the player’s efforts in aiding them.

How To Level Up Renown
Doing specific actions in every region rewards players with renown. Currently, the six actions that reward players with Renown in Diablo 4 are:
- Finding a new area (2 Renown)
- Interacting with Altars of Lilith for the first time (5 Renown)
- Unlocking waypoints (10 Renown)
- Completing side quests (15 Renown)
- Completing Dungeons (20 Renown)
- Liberating Strongholds (50 Renown)
Since completing a dungeon gives the highest amount of renown currently, it might be worth going through a list of all the dungeons in the Fractured Peaks area.
As is to be expected, the five different regions currently available in the game each has their own factions and, as such, their own renown score. This means that if you have a renown score of stage 3 in one region, you might have a stage 1 score in a different region since you haven’t completed that region enough.
Now, every region’s renown score has five stages that you have to collect renown to achieve. Although some of the requirements might sound steep, let it be known that the rewards given are more than worth it.

The biggest reason for this is that, in addition to the ever-increasing gold you get every single time you level your renown stage up (regardless of what level or region), you also get another reward. This reward is account-wide, meaning it’s a permanent one for the first time a player’s character reaches the relevant tier.
Rewards for leveling up Renown
With that being said, what are the requirements and rewards for leveling up your renown stage?
Renown Stage | Renown Requirement | Reward |
---|---|---|
Stage 1 | 80 | +1 Skill point |
Stage 2 | 180 | +1 Potion charge |
Stage 2 | 300 | +1 Skill point |
Stage 4 | 500 | +80 Max Obols |
Stage 5 | 600 | +4 Paragon points |
As mentioned above, keep in mind that you’ll also get gold every time you reach a new renown stage, something that’s sure to come in handy, even though there are other ways to get gold fast in the game too.
While the requirements for reaching the higher renown stages might sound high, remember that you get renown for pretty much doing activities you would have done anyways. Because of this, it’s better to think of renown as an extra reward for playing the game. Remember, if you want to learn more about Diablo 4 features and tricks, stay on N4G Unlocked!
