The Golden Joystick Award Goes to Steam Deck OLED
Now, for those in the unknown, the Golden Joystick Awards, formerly People’s Gaming Awards, is the longest-running video game award ceremony. Starting from 1981, this yearly event celebrates the players’ favorites in the gaming industry. At first, only the British general public was allowed to vote, however, this event became global and the Golden Joystick became one of the most prestigious awards. This year’s event, Golden Joystick 2024, was held on November 21, in London.
The nominees in the Best Gaming Hardware category were: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024), Backbone One (2nd Gen), LG UltraGear 32GS95UE, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super, Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra, and, of course, Steam Deck OLED. The choice was hard, but players worldwide decided that Steam Deck OLED deserved to win the Golden Joystick.
The official Golden Joystick Awards page on X shared an announcement. It read: “Our next award is Best Gaming Hardware, which is presented by the EE Game Store. And the winner is… Steam Deck OLED”.
Satisfied Users Praise This Device
Steam Deck users were thrilled that their favorite device received the well-deserved recognition in the form of a Golden Joystick. However, many of them explained that they weren’t surprised by this, at all.
SeaNerg33 noted: “Makes sense. The engineering in the OLED is very inspired. They shifted components around and the performance they managed to squeeze out of that thermal envelope at those wattages is truly impressive. Also, increased battery space while maintaining similar repairability to LCD’s”.
Another fan, McBiff, raved: “As a lone data point I have to agree. My girlfriend bought me the 512 GB earlier this year. And, it’s given me the same giddy excitement I used to get as a kid. Being able to play all my old favorites on a piece of hardware perfectly suited to it rekindles my excitement for them”.
