If you’re reading this article, you probably haven’t bought the Valve Steam Deck, you’re thinking about it, but you’re contemplating waiting for generation 2 to drop. Well, you’re in luck, as there is no one better to help you with this dilemma than the people who are already using and enjoying this device.
When Is Valve Steam Deck 2 Dropping?
The Steam Deck was first released on February 25, 2022, which means it has been around for a while now. Obviously, when researching what we should buy, we’ll all rather choose the latest model. And, since it’s been more than two years since the initial release, it makes sense that Steam Deck is on its way, right?
Well, yes and no. First of all, at the time of writing this article, the ETA for Steam Deck 2 is still unknown, and Valve hasn’t made any official announcements on this topic. What we do know is that it won’t be released in 2024, and it being released in 2025 is also questionable.
Now, if you’re just curious and examining your options, if you already have another device, or if you don’t mind waiting, that’s completely valid. But, keep in mind that it might be a long wait.
Users Are Against Waiting
The majority of users confirmed these facts. The consensus was that waiting wasn’t worth it. After all, why would you spend your time waiting, when you can spend it enjoying the Steam Deck?
JonesCat_55 noted: “No, I don’t think it is worth waiting. The Steam Deck Oled is a powerful but more importantly versatile gaming device, it’s so good. I’m playing Attack on Titan 2 tonight, it looks incredible and plays great”.
AdvancedConfusion752, stated: “No. Don’t wait. Valve is waiting for a generation leap for SD2. It is at least 2 years away probably 3 years away”. Another player, voidfillproduct, added: “It’s not guaranteed that there even will be a Steam Deck 2. In any case, they have made it clear that they are waiting for the silicon (e. g. ZEN/RDNA) to make a considerable leap. Unlike the competitors, which are updating their portfolio in increments. This may take a while”.
We truly think anyone would enjoy the variety that this device offers, especially since you can also play non-Steam games if you install some plug-ins. So, go for it. Enjoy the console, and when the time comes, you can always sell the old unit and upgrade to the Valve Steam Deck 2.
