You never know what you’ll stumble upon on the internet. No one woke up today expecting to learn that a US Vice Presidential candidate would even know what Valorant is. But, back in 2022, Tim Walz offered support to Valorant State Champions and esports in general.
US Vice Presidential Candidate Is for Esports
A post from Apple Valley High School Esports (MN) has gone viral. It showcases an endorsement from Governor Tim Walz. In a lengthy letter, addressed to Valorant State Champions of Minnesota, the US VP candidate congratulated the team and supported the development of esports.
He stated: “Competitive success requires more than mere physical strength and agility; it also demands mental fortitude and tactical planning. As opportunities for students to engage in competitive multiplayer gaming continue to expand, extracurricular activities and social opportunities should also expand”.
The Governor added: “I am extremely proud of you and the role you have taken on to grow esports participation at [AVHS] and in [MN]. You are at the helm of transforming a hobby to a potentially life-changing career in a new and innovate realm of sports”.
Valorant Players Acknowledge the Importance of Community
Obviously, this resurfaced endorsement by the current Vice Presidential candidate left many Valorant players speechless. Fancy_Till_1495 exclaimed: “Yeah, I honestly just want him as president at this point. Can we just skip straight to him”?
This letter of endorsement initiated a very important conversation on building a community and esports. As you probably know, esports are only starting to get recognized worldwide, and it would be great to see some progress there.
One Redditor, caylem00, noted: “If you have kids and they’re into gaming, push for a game club at their school. Or start actively supporting/ gathering support for it. Speaking as a high school teacher who was involved in starting the eSports competitive teams at my school, a lot of the reluctance on the part of the admin was the opinions of the parents”.
As a member of the Valorant community, you obviously understand what the support of fellow players can mean. Many players have gone through rough patches with the help of the community. All other advantages aside, just being a part of something means a lot. So, if and when you get a chance, voice your support for esports, we certainly will.
