Combating disruptive behavior is, and should be, at the top of the list of priorities for Valorant developers. Toxic players ruined the game for many community members, so a while ago the devs decided to create a brand new tech that would put a stop to that behavior. Valorant devs offered an update on the development of Voice Evaluation and managed to split the community in half.
Devs Offer an Update on the Voice Evaluation Beta
On September 23, the official Valorant account on X posted an announcement. In it, the devs went into great detail about the entire process and the success of introducing the Voice Evaluation beta in North America. They revealed that the beta will soon be launched in APAC (Asia Pacific region) and LATAM (Latin America).
The devs explained how you wouldn’t be able to see the results at first, but over time they’d become obvious. They shared how their language model still needed to learn and grow in order to become able to make a bigger impact.
However, one detail raised a lot of red flags in the community. A part of the message read: “Opting into the recording services will allow you to continue using voice chat. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as this is part of our larger effort to combat disruptive behavior in-game”.
The Update Divided the Valorant Community
As you may have expected, even though this wasn’t the first mention, nor the first update about the Voice Evaluation in Valorant, the majority of players found this approach quite controversial. It turned out that many players would rather deal with toxic players than give their own privacy away.
Crab noted: “Congrats now nobody talks in the game. They all sit there in their Discords instead and trying to pry coms out of someone just starts fights. Another player, Feta, added: “Gonna scream into the mic constantly to confuse the model”.
Of course, some players welcomed this addition. Nermai Kol stated: “Woahhhhh. The new Valorant Voice Evaluation update is a game-changer for player feedback and community standards. It should help create a better environment”.
Now, we get that this new system is a tough pill to swallow for some players, and it’s understandable why. However, the growing numbers of bullies and toxic players are very concerning, so something had to be done. How do you feel about the Voice Evaluation?
