Still, one explanation has irked the community: the argument that “Summoner name doesn’t sync with the lore and hasn’t for a while.” This lore-based reasoning felt weak and out of place to many players, leading to speculation that the real motive might be financial.
Community forums, especially Reddit, contrasted Riot and other game developers, particularly Valve. Titles like Dota 2 and CS2 permit players to modify their in-game names at will, contrasting sharply with Riot’s new approach.
The change has more profound implications than just identity. Many in the Valorant community feel that Riot’s decision fails to consider the fluid nature of the esports realm, where amateur players may frequently hop between teams. As a result, these players could be penalized by the new name change restrictions.
