In Unicorn Overlord, you’ll need to recruit diverse fighters and put together the best units to beat your opponents and effectively defeat the Zenoiran Empire. With this in mind, it’s important to experiment with different classes of characters and utilize their skills in ways that complement your existing units. As a Cavalry fighter, Monica makes a fierce combatant and excellent ally. She boasts incredible Magickal Defenses, allowing her to face off against enemies like Witches with ease. While she can be tough to recruit, it’s definitely worth the trouble. Here’s how to get Monica on your side in Unicorn Overlord.

How to Recruit Monica in Unicorn Overlord
It can be a bit challenging to get Monica on your side in Unicorn Overlord, as you’ll first need to defeat her in the Unyielding Shield quest. That said, there are a few steps to get there. Once you’re able to recruit Melisandre in Cornia, you’ll need to head east if you want to meet up with Monica. As you continue through Saint le Riche Town, you’ll run into a knight whose companion was kidnapped by a band of thieves. This is where Monica comes in — literally.
She attacks the thieves, and your party realizes she’s with the Zenoiran Empire. To keep your identities hidden, you don disguises and use alternative names. After speaking with Monica, you can choose to continue on this path and recruit her. To do this, talk to the knight, Hans. From there, you’ll have to follow the escaped bandits over the south bridge and into the woods.
You’ll soon be ambushed by Bandit Scouts. They’re only around Level 6, so you should be able to win rather easily. However, you’ll also need to face the Bandit Axebearer and save Laika, Hans’ companion. If successful, you can reunite the separated pair. Upon doing so, Monica will foil your disguises, challenging you to battle and initiating the Unyielding Shield quest.
During the quest, your opponents will primarily be Radiant Knights sitting around Level 12. They’ll also try to set up traps, so be careful not to fall for their tricks. With a victory under your belt, you can then recruit Monica by asking her to “Fight on Our Side.”
