You read that correctly, and let us save you some time searching for the release date. The First Descendant was released on July 2, at the time of writing this article, it has been 13 days since it dropped. One player reportedly played The First Descendant for more than 200 hours in these first two weeks. First of all, we don’t judge here, though we are a bit jealous. Secondly, this player’s experience only goes to show how highly addictive this game is. Lastly, they made some extremely good points.
One Descendant Shares the Good, the Bad and the Ugly After 200 Hours
Julch shared their opinions on the game on Reddit. They stated: “Since I’ve had a lot of time on my hands lately, I have played an ungodly amount of the First Descendant. I want to just voice my opinion (into the void perchance), and with any luck someone official sees some of the feedback and acts on it”.
This player went on and separated their thoughts into three categories: the good, the bad, and the ugly. We will summarize the list for you, but, of course, you can also read it in full, as this player gave a very detailed explanation for each and every observation.
The Good
Let’s start with the good. This player noted: “Gunplay feels solid. The movement is great. The amount of collectible things in the game is nice. The moment-to-moment gameplay is fun and solid + public matchmaking is seamless and just feels nice”. They went on to say that the characters are all different, the bosses are fun to play against, and the variety of content is fine. Overall, this player was satisfied with everything from graphics all the way to the devs’ response time.
The Bad
Now, for the bad, they pointed out that the story was generic, the leveling process and the modifiers in the hard mode dungeons were bland, and the smaller bosses were boring. Another interesting observation was the fact that a lot of the guns are just lesser versions of other guns. They also added: “While many systems are explained in-game, I still feel like a lot of things had to be figured out by the community at large rather than the game or tutorial explaining them to us”.
The Ugly
As for the ugly, they listed unnecessary microtransactions, the dye scandal, and several technical issues. Among them are the inventory expansions, the limited amount of favorite items, and bad search functions. This player also pointed out that Gley and Bunny were OP when compared to others. The Battle Pass, the AFK players, and the most recent patch also left a sour taste in this player’s mouth.
Julch concluded: “The First Descendant is a good entry to the looter shooter genre with a lot of promise. There are some things I really want to see changed, some characters that need to be reworked/improved and the mtx situation could just be made a bit less diabolical. Overall I really like the game and the grind hasn’t gotten stale even after as many hours as I have put into it”.
The First Descendant Players Are In Awe Over the Comprehensive List
Most of The First Descendant player base agreed with this player, even though most of them played the game way less than 200 hours. One player, h311ion, stated: “Absolutely great write-up and opinions. Not really anything I can disagree with there”. Shade-AU noted: “Really good view of the game. I’m in the same mindset. Some really good areas that need tidying to remove frustrating/boring quality of life”.
ItsArcheey added: “Very solid points and pretty much exactly on par with what I was thinking having only just finished the story albeit nowhere near 200 hrs lol. But I felt the story was very rushed and just slapped together to have a story aspect to the game. I am ok with it if it meant they had more time to develop what we love about the game”.
Unfortunately, we haven’t had the chance to put in 200 hours of playing The First Descendant. We do agree with most of the observations, though. It’s always great to see people who are passionate and truly care. We sincerely hope the developers will see this player’s list. Maybe they’ll address some of the issues in a future patch.
