A small update that deals with a large matter is here. The First Descendant Hotfix 1.2.17 improved skill damage in Void Erosion Purge missions for all Descendants, but the players are on the fence about it, with some liking it, and others not so much.

The upcoming Season 3 is the talk of the town, but we still have a couple of months before it comes along. In the meantime, Nexon will keep releasing updates for TFD. Maybe not major ones, but we have a couple of improvements to look forward to. And the most recent patch made some changes to Void Erosion Purge missions, to make them more enjoyable to a wider audience.

The First Descendant Hotfix 1.2.17 Patch Notes

On May 15, Nexon released The First Descendant Hotfix 1.2.17, which balances out the Skills vs Firearms in Void Erosion Purges, making skills more viable, and removing penalties that some skill attributes had.

Patch Details

  • Adjusted the difficulty of Void Erosion Purge: Normal (Stages 1–30)
    • Increased Skill Damage for Descendants.
    • (Revised) Attribute skill penalties have been removed for all attribute skills except advantageous attributes.
  • (Revised) In Void Erosion Purge: Challenge Stages 1–5, attribute skill penalties have been removed for all attribute skills except advantageous attributes.

This was followed by the director’s commentary:

“Following the 1.2.14 update, we took a closer look at gameplay data and found that some skills still had room for improvement. With this update, we’ve made adjustments to help more Descendants make better use of their skills across different situations. We’re also introducing the Mutant Cell system in the upcoming 1.2.18 update, which will further enhance skill effectiveness. We hope you’re looking forward to it.”

Players on the Fence

As it turns out, some players are not too happy with the changes to the Skills in Void Erosions, stating that before this patch, the missions required some level of teamwork to beat. “I remember when VEP was difficult and you needed good teamwork to beat level 30 which felt rewarding to complete for me and my buddies good times.“ said WKnight671, and “I remember when void erosion took atleast a little bit of brainpower to complete.” added MGilman1204.

The other half is pretty content with it, with some players being glad they can now use a wider range of weapons and Descendants without being seriously penalized. “I want to use different builds not locked to one”. Others are simply content that it is not another nerf. “It only help a little to clear normal mobs in purge using skills in challenge mode. It’s only for creating faster records.” said ken748647.

Lastly, there is a third group that thinks these changes are next-to-meaningless, since Serena will still steamroll through everything either way.

In any case, this will definitely make the Void Erosions more enjoyable for casual players. We have only a couple of major updates to go before Season 3 comes along and shakes up the game, with Axion Plains, swords, Descendant Nell, and more!
