Another great AoE character, Valby utilizes water-based powers to deal with enemies and help out her teammates. She is great to have in a team, especially when paired up with Bunny or Viessa, since enemies hit by her abilities have their Electric and Chill resistances reduced, thanks to her “Laundry effect”. Being an AoE character, Valby is a little lackluster versus single targets or on her own. But, with the right team and the right build, Valby can be an invaluable team member. With that in mind, let’s see what is the the best build for Valby in The First Descendant.
Valby Skills
- Water Intake (Passive) – When using skills while standing on water, she consumes less MP.
- Bubble Bullet – Bounces a Bubble Bullet forward to create a small puddle where the Bubble Bullet impacts and where she stands. Enemies in the small puddle take continuous damage and are inflicted with Laundry.
- Plop Plop – Creates a large puddle where she is standing, then dives in. Vallby then pops out at a selected location in the large puddle. Enemies in the large puddle take continuous damage and are inflicted with Laundry.
- Clean Up – Vallby becomes Liquefied. While Liquefied, she cannot take her feet off of the ground or use skills, but she can move through enemies and her Movement Speed and DEF increase. When moving while Liquefied, she creates a path of water that deals continuous damage to enemies and inflicts Laundry.
- Laundry Bomb – Changes the equipped weapon to the Laundry Bomb Launcher. When the Launcher is fired, a Laundry Bomb is created, pulling in enemies inflicted with Laundry and dealing continuous damage.
Best Valby Build
Valby is a team player who affects enemies with damage-over-time effects using her Skills, so it is natural that the best build focuses on improving them. She has a way to deal with MP costs thanks to her Water Intake Passive, so MP management should not be your priority. Lastly, she is one of the squishiest Descendants in the game, so a defensive boost can be quite beneficial. Let’s see what is the best equipment for Valby, separated into the following categories: Weapon (and Weapon Modules), Descendant Modules, Reactor, and External Components.
Best Weapon for Valby in The First Descendant
To capitalize on her Laundry effect, the best weapon for Valby is most definitely the Thunder Cage Submachine Gun. Each eliminated enemy has a chance to emit an Electric Shockwave. That Shockwave deals Electrical Damage to enemies up to three meters away (who should already have their resistance reduced by your abilities), allowing you to quickly dispatch groups of enemies with ease.
Valby is a team player, and if reducing the enemy’s resistances is how she helps the team, a weapon that doubles down on it is quite handy. So, another great weapon for Valby is the Python Submachine Gun. Hits to Weak Points with this weapon will reduce the target’s resistance to Non-Attribute and Toxic damage, which worked great when paired up with Ajax or Freyna. Add Bunny or Viessa to the squad and Valby will be everyone’s best friend.
Weapon Modules
The Thunder Cage should be your primary weapon so now we’re gonna take a look at the best Weapon Modules for it. The obvious choice is those Modules that improve the ATK of the weapon since the Electric Shockwave is based on that. The best Weapon Modules for Valby are:
Weapon Module | Effect |
Rifling Reinforcement | Improves weapon’s ATK |
Action and Reaction | Improves weapon’s ATK and Recoil |
Marksman | Improves weapon’s ATK and Critical Hit Rate |
Electric Recoil | Improves weapon’s ATK when firing at Electrocuted enemies |
Other Modules you should try to get are those that Improve Fire Rate (like Fire Rate Up) and Weak Point Damage (like Weak Point Control and Weak Point Sight).
Descendant Modules
Since Valby uses less MP for her Skills when standing in water, you can focus on Modules that directly improve them, instead of wasting slots for MP management ones. Furthermore, you most definitely need something to keep Valby alive, so a couple of HP increasing Modules are a must.
The best Descendant Modules for Valby are:
Descendant Module | Effect |
Technician | Improves Skill Power |
Nimble Fingers | Reduces Skill Cooldown |
Skill Extension | Increases Skill Duration |
Technique Manual | Skills periodically deal a percentage of Max HP as damage |
Skill Expansion | Increases Skill Effect Range |
Increased DEF | Increases DEF |
Increased HP | Increases Max HP |
Reactor
All of Valby’s Skills are Non-Attribute, so we are looking for Reactors that boost that type. Those are onces with Materialized in the title. Next, we need a Reactor that boosts either Fusion (for Bubble Bullet and Laundry Bomb) or Dimension Skills (for Plop Plop and Clean Up), and those have Mixture (for Fusion) or Phase (for Dimension) in the title.
So, the best Reactors for Valby are either the Materialized Mixture Reactors or Materialized Phase Reactors, depending on which Skills you use more.
External Components
Last but not least, the External Components buff up the defensive capabilities of Descendants. Since Valby is a bit squishy, she will greatly benefit from any improvements in that department.
So, the best External Components for Valby are those that improve HP Recovery, Max HP, DEF, and Max Shields.
With this build, you will be an invaluable member of the squad and a general “force multiplier” that everyone would want on their team.
