A Mystery Solved? Players Discuss Secret Doors in The First Descendant

The world of Ingris in TFD is pretty large. Each area has its own tileset, its distinctive appearance. From the highlands of White Night Gulch (if we ignore the huge Vulgus fortress) to the deserts of Agna Desert, the environment of Ingris is rich. But, since we already mentioned the Vulgus fortress, practically all areas are also filled with structures, both human and alien in origin. They range from small outposts and ruins to huge complexes. And, among all those structures scattered about, players started noticing hidden doors from time to time.

Ready for Future Content

More and more players reported seeing closed doors leading to nowhere during their explorations. “So far I’ve found 2 but I believe I might’ve seen another a long time ago in echo swamp or sterile land (not completely sure if I did though). Seemingly, you appear out of bounds on the map…I doubt the devs would just leave these parts of the map in if they didn’t have any further use for them so maybe they plan on having you come to these places to start future story mode/dlc missions?” asked Temporary_Tale_8416 on Reddit.

It is a common practice with the game devs to leave some areas (behind closed doors, in this example) empty, in case they need them for future content. Alternatively, they may just be a cosmetic, there to look nice, but lead absolutely nowhere. Or, they can be a leftover from some previous ideas that were scrapped, and the devs just didn’t bother to remove those doors. It wouldn’t be the first time. “There are so many locations that I have gone into and was like “why is there nothing here?” It could be future content or scrapped content that just didn’t get fully removed,” said Present-Plan-8011.

A Mystery Solved?

Those doors are well-hidden and they have a path leading straight to them. Knowing that, we can cross out the “purely cosmetic” answer. There is (or was or will be) certainly a point to them, and one player has offered a possible solution to this mystery. User Snack378 stated: “That’s actually doors from second beta where map was seamless (that was passages to get from one zone to another). Back then you could get from Vermilion Waste to The Mining site without loading for example“. If this is true, then the final map has been seriously reworked since the beta.

The fact that these doors are still there, if Snack378’s answer is true, probably means that the devs are intentionally keeping them. With the Mega-Dungeons coming in Season 2, these doors may well be entrances to them. Time will tell.
