Season 3 of the Finals started on June 13. The players have been a bit overwhelmed by all the changes, the addition of a new arena, and the new ranked mode Terminal Attack. The latter has already received some harsh criticism. In addition to those changes, the new players had to fulfill the requirement of 5 rounds of TA to be allowed to explore other modes in The Finals.
Should Playing the TA be a Requirement at All?
One player, Just_some_dumb_a**, even wrote an open letter to the developers. It stated: “The fact that you are forcing new players to play 5 rounds of TA before they can play anything else is completely spitting in the face of The Finals and what it stands for. I know if I was given this requirement I would try it out, play a few rounds, say this isn’t for me, and never play The Finals ever again”.
They added: “The Finals never would’ve gotten all the time, money, and passion I’ve put into it in such a short time and I have a fear that will be the case for many others. I agree players should have to play at least 5 rounds of TA before joining ranked but they should not under any circumstance have to play 5 rounds of TA before they play anything”.
While most players simply agreed, some theorized who was behind this decision. Active_Fun850 suggested: “Most likely, a corporate decision. They are usually the cause of most of the dogs**t changes in most games. The game wasn’t doing well, now it will be worse. I would constantly recommend The Finals to people but now I can’t recommend it to them because everyone I know wouldn’t enjoy that garbage of a game mode”.
The New Players of The Finals Don’t Have To Fulfill the TA Requirement Anymore
The pleas and the pressure of the community have seemingly done wonders. In a recent Discord announcement, the developers stated that the requirements were removed. A Community Manager, Oscar, noted: “Also, in order for them [the new players] to be able to jump straight into the action as quickly as possible, we have now removed the requirement for new players to complete 3 games of Terminal Attack before trying out all our game modes”.
You might have caught the 3-game requirement instead of the 5 rounds of TA requirement for accessing all game modes in The Finals. In our experience, and according to many players, the requirement was 5 games. The 3 games might have been a typo, or maybe something we haven’t been notified about. Whichever way, the fact is that the new players can now freely explore The Finals without any requirements.
The community was excited by the aspect of new players, as well as by the gesture itself. It proved that the developers were actually listening to the player base. Potential_Insect_632 said: “So happy to see this. Great to see how receptive they are to feedback and how proactive they are with dealing with things”.
In our opinion, all’s well that ends well. The surge of new players will certainly refresh the game a little. Maybe a nerf to LH1 will be the next step in the right direction. We are looking forward to seeing how the new Season will play out. So far it’s been very exciting.
