Tekken 8 is the upcoming sequel to the popular fighting game franchise. Started in 1994, Tekken is PlayStation’s staple fighting game (SEGA had Mortal Kombat and Nintendo had Street Fighter). Tekken 8 is the 10th major installment of the franchise and will feature the usual cast of characters like Jin Kazama, King, Yoshimitsu, and fan-favorite Taekwondo master Hwoarang. This is a continuation of the storyline from Tekken 7, and aims to provide a more cinematic feeling, due to being powered by state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 5. So, when can we start playing? What is the release date for Tekken 8? Let’s see.

Release Date for Tekken 8

The official release date for Tekken 8 is January 26, 2024. This release date is the same for all platforms it will be playable on. The release date was revealed on Gamescon 2023, via a trailer for the game. As for the exact time, we have no information. That means we have to wait a little more than three weeks, from the time of writing. Tekken 8 has been available for pre-order since August 22. So, what do we know about the game so far?

What Do We Know About Tekken 8

The story of Tekken 8 is set six months after the events of Tekken 7. It leads to the final confrontation between Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima.

Tekken 8 is practically the first fighting game to use Unreal Engine 5. It will have expanded options for stage destruction, characters’ reactions to it, and the overall cinematic experience. 

As for playable characters, there will be 32 in total to choose from. We have no information on which characters will be available from the get-go and which have to be unlocked, either by playing the game or by getting a DLC.
