It is confirmed that Tekken 8 uses a new system called Heat, so let’s see what it is. Let’s try to take a deeper look into this new mechanic.
The latest installment of the Tekken franchise is soon to be released. Tekken 8 uses the latest technology to bring you a cinematic feel. With 32 characters and 16 stages, it is going to be a blast. You can play Tekken 8 on not one, not two, but three platforms. It’s a big step away from originally being PlayStation-only. But that is not all. Tekken 8 focuses on aggressive gameplay and introduces a new gameplay system called “Heat”. What is that, what does Heat do? Let’s see. Read on and find out what is the Heat system in Tekken 8.
What Is Heat in Tekken 8?
Heat is a special feature of Tekken 8. You will see a small blue bar, beneath your standard Health Bar. That bar represents Heat and can only be used once per round. To utilize this feature, you must enter the so-called Heat Mode. While in Heat Mode, your attacks deal Chip Damage (a tiny bit of temporary damage that passes through Blocks), some of your character’s abilities gain additional benefits and you gain access to Heat Dash and Heat Smash. Heat Mode lasts 10 seconds, but every hit you land on your opponent, or while they are downed, causes that timer to stop. So, if played carefully, you can have Heat Mode active for a long time.
Entering Heat Mode
To enter Heat mode, you have two options: a generic Heat Burst and a character-specific Heat Engager.
- Heat Burst (Right Punch + Left Kick) – this is a generic way to enter Heat Mode, it is a slam attack that you can also use during a combo.
- Heat Engager – every character has its own command for a Heat Engager. Usually, it sends the opponent flying to the other side of the screen.
Now that you’re in Heat Mode, now what?

Benefits of Heat Mode
As mentioned previously, you gain several small advantages (Chip Damage, additional benefits for your abilities), and you also get access to two Heat abilities
- Heat Dash – best used after a Heat Engager, this move dashes you towards your opponent, so as not to waste the precious Heat timer while approaching the now far away opponent.
- Heat Smash – the finisher, this move ends the Heat Mode while dealing massive damage. Press the same buttons you used for Heat Burst (Right Punch + Left Kick) to use Heat Smash.
