Longtime fans of the franchise are likely familiar with the cast of playable characters and others you’ll meet along the way, but gameplay varies from one to the next in the new entry. Some offer a more beginner-friendly experience, while others are better suited for seasoned players. Here’s a rundown of the Super Mario crew and other faces you’ll meet in the kingdom.
All Playable Characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Mario
As the face of the franchise, Mario leads the playable roster in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Determined and dependable, Mario is always up for a challenge — especially if it means saving a friend in need. He maintains classic gameplay, and he’s particularly skilled at hopping on the heads of Koopas.
Luigi
Luigi is Mario’s not-so-little brother and greatest ally. These two brothers make a super team, combining their skills to finish just about any job. Alongside his brother, there’s nothing Luigi can’t do. Like Mario, Luigi also maintains classic gameplay, making him a great option for longtime players.
Princess Peach
Peach is the renowned princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, which neighbors the Flower Kingdom. Beloved by all, Peach has certainly earned the admiration she’s received by lending a hand whenever she can. Utilizing classic gameplay, she’s always ready to jump into action and save the day.
Princess Daisy
Like Peach, Princess Daisy has earned the love and admiration of the kingdom’s people. Despite her status, she remains down to earth and totally capable. Because of this, she can easily make friends wherever she ventures. This princess is also a great option for experienced players.
Toads
The Toads are back in action in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. In the new installment, you can play as one of two, including Yellow and Blue. These little guys are capable of big things, so don’t let their small stature and undeniably adorable demeanor fool you. Toads make great picks for those with ample experience.
Toadette
While she’s technically a member of the Toad species herself, Toadette stands out from the crowd. This pink-and-white clad girl is just as tough as she is sweet. More than anything, she’s looking to have a good time. Nothing gets Toadette pumped up quite like a challenge, which is reflected in her gameplay.
The Yoshis
What’s a Super Mario release with the fan-favorite Yoshis? In the new entry, you can take your pick of four, including the standard Green, Yellow, Red, and gradient Blue. Friendly and reliable, each offers beginner-friendly gameplay with helpful tricks, like flutter jumping and the ability to eat foes and spit them back out.
Nabbit
Like his name suggests, Nabbit is known to have sticky fingers. That said, he’s more than willing to lend a hand to accomplish a good deed. Similar to the Yoshis, Nabbit also utilizes gameplay that’s great for beginners. When you take on a course as Nabbit, you won’t take any damage from enemies.

Non-Playable Characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Bowser
Bowser is the infamous King of the Koopas, known to crash any party no matter the circumstances. In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the king disrupts Mario’s meeting with the Flower Kingdom’s Prince Florian. Subsequently, he gets his hands on a Wonder Flower and merges with the Prince’s castle.
Prince Florian
Prince Florian is the benevolent leader of the Flower Kingdom. In the new installment, he invites Mario and friends from the Mushroom Kingdom to visit his castle. Of course, his meeting with the Super Mario gang is cut short by the King of Koopas.
