Star Citizen aims to be the most realistic space sim out there, though the developers are taking their time in delivering a complete product. Still, what they do have shows promise, letting players fly through space, landing on planets and space stations with seamless transitions. Normally the vastness of space would take a while to traverse, but Star Citizen allows players to bypass a bit of the extra fly time with Quantum Travel.
Quantum Travel allows players to traverse large distances in a few minutes, meaning the universe won’t have to feel as infinite as it is. Given how much players will want to explore, Quantum Travel will be a core mechanic used in any player’s experience.
This brief guide will go over how Quantum Travel works and what its stipulations are. This way any player can get off-world and across the universe as soon as possible, ready to explore whatever lies out in the vastness of space in Star Citizen.
- Magnetic non-contact X and Y axis sensors provide enhanced longevity and improved accuracy. A dual spring centering mechanism provides a progressive, smooth movement that further aids your control.
- Multifunction LCD Display affords even greater control of your navigation within Flight Simulator X, thanks to direct control of the simulation’s radio panel functionality.
- 3D Twist with Rudder Lock, essential for simulation control. For those that already have rudder pedals, you can lock off the axis in order to prevent accidental activation.
- 5-position Grip System: Maintain excellent ergonomic comfort with no need to stretch to reach buttons
- 282 Programmable Commands over 3 modes: Have all of the commands in Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen under your fingertips with no need to switch back to your keyboard
How Do Players Activate Quantum Travel in Star Citizen?
To activate Quantum Travel, players should press B while piloting a ship. This will bring up the quantum travel UI. The ship will first scan the area for possible Quantum Travel points, as shown by the bar at the top of the UI. When it finishes, possible Quantum Travel locations will be noted. Players mouse over whichever location they would like to travel to, and then hold down B for four seconds. This will start Quantum Travel.
Players should note that not all locations can be Quantum Travelled to. The target must be at least 50 kilometers away, meaning this method is restricted to long distances only. Players also can’t travel through objects, meaning there need to be no obstacles between a player and their intended point of travel. When Quantum Travel locations fail to meet these requirements they will be marked in red on the UI rather than blue or green, so players will know they can’t travel in this way.
Quantum Travel does have a fuel requirement and a cooldown based on each type of ship, so it can’t be constantly used to jet across all of space. Still, for PC players trying to get a few systems over to try out some new content, there’s no better way to travel.
