Online games can be a harrowing place for newcomers once a meta develops and the dedicated community starts breezing through content. Yet we should always remember that new players are joining daily, most unaware of what they’re getting themselves into. Space Marine 2 had a recent influx of new players, and many of them have taken the time to share their impressions and thank the helpful veterans.

The 41st millennium is more welcoming than expected

While Space Marine 2 already has plenty of speed-running groups who want to “go-go-go”, there seems to be plenty of room for newbies to get their feet wet. In one instance, TurboRufus has shared the experience of joining a veteran group and had nothing but positive things to say:

“I just wanted to thank the 40k and Space Marine 2 community for being awesome. I played 2 operations today with my son, and we jumped in, just the 2 of us, [because] of our online experiences in the past with competitive PvE, let’s just say we’d rather have a bot. Especially now that this old gamer is looking at 50 and arthritis in my hands is kicking in, I didn’t want to have someone get toxic [because] I’m not playing at a certain level. In both games, we had a blueberry drop in and both times they were awesome. Understanding, patient, and informative… They taught the mechanics (I didn’t know these operations are like mini-Destiny raids!), and told us the best way to play our class.”

More players have chimed in support, with some offering to help teach the duo more about the game. Others have remarked that most “sweaty” players can be found in Substantial and higher difficulties, so anything lower than that is safe. Delta_926 added: “It’s quite refreshing to hear this, especially with how you can hear about the neckbeards and meta chasers running off new people to the communities and hobby every so often! Welcome and enjoy!”

However, the best part is that this wasn’t an isolated incident. Sensha_TheOriginal had a story of their own. In a separate Reddit thread, they shared:: “Thank you for enjoying the slaughter of xenos, purging every single enemy that we come across, the weapon Experian will come in due time as well as the character levels. There’s no point in rushing the mission apart from maximising exp per hour I understand. Those are a different breed of brothers rushing the objectives, that will complain they have nothing to unlock anymore.”

Once again, the community was supportive and made the new player feel welcome. That is not to say that there aren’t outliers – every game has them. Some want to play hardcore and get through missions as quickly as possible. Yet other players don’t mind taking their time to complete theirs. Those are the types of players that we wish more new players would come across. Everyone started from somewhere, and while experience with games helps many acclimate faster, not everyone has the time or desire to do so. So if you come across someone new on the bloody battlefields in the grim-dark galaxy, take the time to show them the ropes. You might just make a new friend.
