Dying to know whether you can play Sea of Thieves on Nintendo Switch systems? Stick around for your answer along with additional information about compatible platforms.
It’s shaping up to be a big year for Sea of Thieves, a live service game title that initially launched back in 2018. This year, developer Rare released updated editions of the game, offering up exclusive loot to those who already own a past edition of Sea of Thieves and potential players who are planning to purchase the game in the future. Following this celebratory re-release of sorts, Rare has recently put out the Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island expansion, anchoring a heap of even more new content to explore in the game.
With so much to do and look forward to, fans of the game want their share of the bounty, but system compatibility may pose a problem. Is Sea of Thieves available on the Switch? Here’s what we know.
Is Sea of Thieves Available on the Nintendo Switch?
As it stands, Sea of Thieves is currently unavailable on Nintendo Switch systems. At the time of writing, the live service game can only be played on PC and Xbox consoles. While it’s certainly disappointing that Sea of Thieves remains a pretty exclusive title, one plus here is the game is available on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, so even those who main last-gen systems can join in on the fun and become a pirate ship captain.
Is Sea of Thieves Coming to Nintendo Switch?
Despite longstanding speculation within the game’s player base, there is currently no indication that Sea of Thieves will come to Nintendo Switch in the future. However, the bad news is not without some silver lining. For quite some time, fans of the game have discussed potential expansion to other systems, citing its late arrival on Steam as a reason to hope for future compatibility with the Switch.
While this remains unfounded by any official statements made by developer Rare, the seemingly small factoid does offer a sliver of hope to those wishing to play Sea of Thieves on the Switch someday. For now, we’ll have to continue our voyage on PC and Xbox consoles.
