Moreover, there are several ways you can achieve a great build for your Pokémon, which typically involves getting its hidden ability. Traditionally, Pokémon with these special abilities are tough to come by, begging the question: How do you get a Pokémon’s hidden ability in Scarlet and Violet?
The process is easier than you may think. There are a few different routes you can take to either catch a Pokémon with its hidden ability or change it after a Pokémon has been caught. In any case, here’s what you can do to get a Pokémon’s hidden ability in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

- Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.

There are a few routes you can take to obtain a Pokémon with its hidden ability in Scarlet and Violet, including the following methods.
- Catch a Pokémon with a Hidden Ability in a Tera Raid or in the wild.
- Use an Ability Patch.
- Breed for Pokémon with Hidden Abilities.
Catching Pokémon with Hidden Abilities
One of the easiest ways to find and catch a Pokémon with its hidden ability is to enter 6-Star Tera Raid Battles. While your chance of finding a Pokémon with its hidden ability goes up when you enter a raid, higher ranked raid battles tend to increase your odds. What’s more, raids essentially guarantee a catch if you can successfully defeat the Terastal Pokémon.
Apart from participating in Tera Raids, you can also encounter Terastal Pokémon in the overworld throughout Paldea. Easily recognized by their crystalline aura, these Pokémon sport an alternative Tera Type and a higher chance of having their hidden ability. Save your game before entering battle to create a fail-safe in case the wild Pokémon doesn’t have its hidden ability. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait for the Tera Pokémon to respawn at a later time.
Changing a Pokémon’s Ability with the Ability Patch
You can also give a Pokémon its hidden ability after it’s been caught by using an Ability Patch. This is a great method for those who aim to bond with their Pokémon, as you won’t need to start over with a new Pokémon and raise friendship from square one.
The only downside here is the fact that Ability Patches are single-use items, and they cannot be purchased from the various shops found throughout Paldea. This means you’ll need to obtain them as rewards for participating in 6-Star Tera Raids or higher. Before you can participate, you’ll have to beat the Elite Four and complete the post-game events.
That said, this may not the best option to obtain a Pokémon’s hidden ability if you’re just getting started in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet. Consider other methods better suited for your journey.
Breeding for Pokémon with Hidden Abilities
You might also try your hand at breeding to obtain a Pokémon with its hidden ability in Scarlet or Violet. However, this likely won’t yield the desired result unless the mother Pokémon has its own hidden ability. In the same vein, breeding two parents with hidden abilities will boost the odds of producing offspring with hidden abilities by 80%. Of course, this will require two Pokémon of the same species. Otherwise, you’ll have to substitute Ditto in place of the father Pokémon.
Because this method can be tricky and time-consuming without ideal parents, I recommend overlapping methods to first catch one or both parent Pokémon with their own hidden abilities.
