Housemarque is a popular PlayStation games developer studio, best known for Returnal, Matterfall, and Nex Machina, and their fans are excited for their upcoming game, Saros. As it turns out, the new gameplay video for Saros is announced by the Returnal devs, scheduled for later this year.
Back in February 2025, Housemarque announced that they are working on a new game called Saros. It is heavily influenced by Returnal, and it will have a similar gameplay and narrative style. As for the plot, it is a whole new IP, and is a haunting story about a lost off-world colony on Carcosa under an ominous eclipse. Housemarque says that the key distinction between Returnal and Saros is permanent resources and progression. Your upgrades are permanent, meaning that if you die, you will come back stronger. Sounds pretty cool, unfortunately, it is going to be a while until we get to see the official gameplay video.
Housemarque, the Devs Behind Returnal, Have Announced a Gameplay Video for Their New Game, Scheduled For Later This Year
On April 17, Housemarque revealed that we should expect the first look at the extended gameplay of Saros sometime later this year.
Hopefully, we will get to see how the aforementioned permanent progression exactly works in the game, as well as get some action shots.
Unsurprisingly, the fans are already excited, and you get to see comments like: “Can’t wait. Y’all are a top 5 dev for me.” by DialgaMarine92 on X, “high quality gaming is coming.” by Valvados, and “I can’t wait! This one of my most anticipated game!” by PacomeSrt.
It is refreshing to see the fans having so much trust in Housemarque and their work. The devs did say that the Saros project was only possible due to Sony acquiring Housemarque back in 2021. It is no surprise that the fans are skeptical when it comes to the big names, but are still confident that Housemarque will do a good job.
