Kadokawa is a famous Japanese media conglomerate, consisting of studios dealing in publications, films, video games, and more. What it is mostly known for, in the gaming world, is that it is a parent company of FromSoftware (the people behind Elden Ring and Armored Core), Spike Chunsoft, and Acquire, to name a few. In a recent financial report, Kadokawa announced that they have 20 new console games in development, as well as six new games for mobiles.
Kadokawa Has 26 New Games in Development Across All Its Subsidiaries, 20 for Consoles and Six for Mobiles
On Friday, November 7, Kadokawa released a financial report where they announced that 26 new games are in the works. That includes 20 new console games and six new mobile games, spread out over all of its subsidiary gaming companies.
This is due to the recent success of Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring. The DLC proved to be so successful that it led to a resurgence of Elden Ring sales. “In the Gaming segment, domestic and international revenue from ELDEN RING DLC drove high growth in the segment overall.” is written in the report. “Sales increased in the segment overall both YTD and in 2Q, with the significant contribution of original ELDEN RING and its DLC”
The success resulted in Kadokawa’s expansion of the game development pipeline and an increased focus on gaming. “We are developing a structure to expand the scope of in-house publishing for console and PC games, For mobile games, we are pursuing new development studios to increase the number of titles and improve quality.”
Even though Kadokawa said they are focusing on console and mobile games, the success of Elden Ring may push them to consider more PC games as well. Or at least have a PC port for their console games.
