Once Human Community Puzzled by the Inconsistent Numbers

Once Human player walking through nature

Once Human is set to release on July 9 and it seems that this game is starting off with a sprinkle of controversy. Many players have noticed that the official numbers don’t really match the numbers available online. Some Once Human fans say these inconsistent numbers are making them mistrust the developers before the game even dropped.

Available Numbers for Once Human Vs. the Official Ones

One fan, TheRealHasil, noted: “I’m not sure if there is another Once Human Reddit, but the numbers in this one are weird. This Reddit only has about 7.2k members, and Once Human supposedly has millions of pre-registrations. You would expect the numbers of this Subreddit to be higher if there were really that many people interested in playing once human. So, I’m guessing the pre-registration numbers may be somehow inflated”.

At the time of writing this article, the official Once Human Subreddit has around 7.4k members. Of course, this could have a rational explanation. We usually join a Subreddit once we start playing the game, right? Yes, but, at the same time, the developers boast about almost 21 million pre-registrations on the official website, so a bigger community is to be expected.

If you check out the official X account, you might be surprised as well. Since April 2022, this account amassed only 32.3k followers, which is much less than, for example, the recently released Zenless Zone Zero which has amassed 640k followers in almost the same time period (since March 2022). And not for the lack of trying, as there are currently a couple of active giveaways to raise the number of followers of the Once Human X account.

Not to accidentally take away any of the well-deserved hype, we have to mention that Once Human is at the top of the wishlists on both Epic and Steam. Reportedly it is #5 in wishlists on Steam, with around 123k followers. The Discord channel for Once Human has around 384k members at the time of writing this article.

Community Shares Possible Reasons For Inconsistencies

What could be the cause of those bizarre inconsistencies? One Redditor, Bardif, offered a possible solution: “I think Reddit can be toxic, too, but like 10 million pre-registrations or whatever they boast and only 7k people here does seem a bit weird. Maybe it’s because a lot of the pre-registrations are global and more users on Reddit are based in the USA, so the numbers are skewed that way”.

That could be a very logical explanation. Another fan, hatesnack, confirmed: “It’s definitely global pre-registrations and something like 65% of Reddit user base is in the US. China has its own version of Reddit and I’m sure they have a thread/forum for the game as well”.

Aegis_Sinner explained: “More likely, just glanced at the Discord, and it’s sitting at 382k members. Something else is that I typically look up a game’s Subreddit for info, conversation, or memes of x game. The game’s not even out so it isn’t in my mind”. Honestly, this is probably the correct explanation.

There is, obviously, some hype over this game, but the social media hasn’t caught up yet. That will probably change as soon as it is released. It wouldn’t get so high on wishlists on Epic and Steam if it weren’t in demand. So, we’d suggest you keep an eye out for Once Human, regardless of the inconsistent numbers. Try it out for yourself before you make any judgment. We sure can’t wait to check it out.
