Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fans think the current multiplayer maps are too big – and want a few more smaller maps added that offer similar fast-paced action as Shipment 24/7.
It comes after the likes of the Valderas Museum have been added to the game. The museum-base map is one of the larger in the game, with some areas feeling empty if you’re playing a Free For All match. The result is some periods of time being spent hunting enemies and running around the map rather than fighting them.
“…I really hate other game modes because most of the maps are just too damn big. I can’t tell you how many games I just straight-up quit because in the first three minutes I’m only getting 1 or 2 kills,” one gamer wrote on the Modern Warfare 2 Reddit.
“You spawn, spend 30 seconds sprinting across the map, get killed, and now have to spend even more time running around just looking for an enemy.”
Another added: “What I hate so much about their maps is they are so expansive in the sense that players can come from 4-5 different ways at a single time. This makes it often a total gamble if you’re aiming in the right spot, let alone can secure the kill.

“Some people like these kinds of maps for their versatility and freedom to play however you want. Throw in the bigger opportunities of strategy to form a skill gap around, and you have a fair case to justify maps like this being better than the smaller maps Treyarch are known for.”
Not all Call of Duty fans seem to share that sentiment, though. “I don’t want smaller maps, I want larger teams. But really the team size should be adjusted for map size,” said one gamer.
This approach would certainly make a lot of sense. The Valderas Map, Taraq, and to some extent, Crown Raceway can sometimes feel incredibly sparse in some game modes.
Limiting or adjusting map rotation depending on the game mode would certainly make a lot of sense… the downside, though, is there are currently only a handful of maps in the game.
Ideally, we would want to see a handful of smaller, more intense maps added to MW2 – which we think will be likely in an upcoming season. Until then, Shipment and Shoothouse are the best you can do if you’re after quick-fire, intense firefights.
