Capcom strikes again! The Monster Hunter Wilds developers issued a warning to all players to obey the policy about the unauthorized use of pre-release content. If the players decide not to follow this policy, their accounts will be suspended. The community strongly feels this decision is way too harsh, and players are calling on Capcom to rethink it.
Monster Hunter Devs Remind the Players of Their Strict Policy
On June 5, the developers issued a statement via the official Monster Hunter X account. The post is titled “Regarding Unauthorized Use of Pre-Release Content”. Basically, it’s about the measures that are and will be taken against players who use mods to unlock the content that is already in the game files but hasn’t been released yet.
They noted: “The unauthorized acquisition or use of unreleased content (such as armor) is a violation of the rules. As of the release of Title Update 1, accounts found to have clearly engaged in such misconduct are now being suspended progressively starting today”.
So, what can the Monster Hunter Wilds players who violate this policy expect? The devs stated: “Determinations of misconduct are made through Capcom’s own investigations and detection systems. We review gameplay data and activity history before taking strict actions such as account suspension. Please note that we cannot respond to individual inquiries regarding these enforcement actions”.
The devs also asked the players to report other players who violate the policy. You can read the details on prohibited actions in Article 8 of the EULA. They concluded: “To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all players, we kindly ask that you refrain from any form of cheating or unauthorized behavior”.
Wilds Players Find the Policy Unnecessarilly Harsh
Obviously, the community wasn’t all too happy about this policy. After all, the content is already in the game, and using it doesn’t hurt anyone in any way. So, they gladly voiced their concerns.
One player, Grummz, noted: “This is a harsh and disproportionate response. These aren’t hurting the game or anyone. You’re stealing your game back from paying customers, blocking them forever, just because they looked at their “Xmas gifts” a little early”.
Another player, Nix, added: “I will mod this singleplayer game how I want, just like the other ones and you should rather worry about fixing the goddamn game to actually work. Oh, btw, how about not putting in new stuff before it releases instead of punishing paying customers?”.
Of course, some players supported this policy, as the ones breaking it were technically cheaters. Jean said: “They literally cheated lol, showing off s**t to people who can’t get it legitimately yet. Their own fault for cheating”.
So, whose side are you on? Capcom has made some interesting announcements lately, most of which detailed their fight against cheaters. We’re curious to see how this will pan out. In the meantime, don’t forget to complete this week’s Event Quests and enjoy the Street Fighter 6 collab. Happy hunting.
