Is Dave the Diver multiplayer? In short, no, and that’s a good thing

Looking to find if Dave the Diver is multiplayer? Then you have come to the right place. The hybrid fishing -restaurant sim has been taking Steam by Storm since it launched at the tail-end of June. It sees players venturing into the deep sea during the day, and running a sushi restaurant at night – which surely means the game is multiplayer, right? Wrong. Here’s what you need to know.

Is Dave the Diver multiplayer?

At the time of writing, Dave the Diver does not support multiplayer. According to the Steam listing, it’s just a ‘single player’ game. According to the blurb on Steam, Dave the Diver is: “a casual, single-player adventure RPG featuring deep-sea exploration and fishing during the day and sushi restaurant management at night. Join Dave and his quirky friends as they seek to uncover the secrets of the mysterious Blue Hole.”

So, will there ever be multiplayer? We have reached out to developers MINTROCKET to see if we’re able to get some time to discuss the game, and will let you know when and if we hear back. It doesn’t seem, however, as though the community is bothered much about a multiplayer mode coming to the game. The general consensus is that the current game mechanics would not translate into a decent multiplayer experience without a few significant tweaks.

One gamer wrote on Steam: “No I can’t see it working as MP honestly.. if someone says hey one is the server in restaurant the other is fishing. or you gank on sharks.. nah i don’t see it.”

Another added: “If the game does really well, I could maybe a sequel where someone could play Dave, someone else Cobra, Bancho, etc. but there’s really no way to do multiplayer as is.”

It seems as though the game is perfect as it is – and the ‘Overwhelmingly positive’ scores certainly back that up. If you’re after a multiplayer game not 100 miles away from something like Dave the Diver, you may want to check out the Overcooked series. The original Overcooked is currently 80% on Steam, while Overcooked 2 can be snapped up at a cool 75% off the RRP.

The good news is that Dave the Diver is currently enjoying a cool 10% off on the standard edition, which you can pick on Steam right now. If you’re playing the game, make sure to check out our guides, including how to catch tuna in Dave the Diver.
